Is Buffy doing a reboot?
Yes!
Rumours of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot started swirling in February 2025.
“Sources say that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to once again play the iconic title character in the untitled project, although it would focus on a new Slayer and Gellar would appear in a recurring role rather than leading the series,” Variety reported at the time.
And, as aforementioned, it was confirmed in May 2025 that the reboot is indeed going full steam ahead.
Is Sarah Michelle Gellar doing the Buffy reboot?
Yes, Sarah Michelle has agreed to be in the reboot.
She will once again play Buffy Summers.
At this stage, it’s not yet been announced whether any other original cast members – like Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon, Seth Green, or Anthony Stewart Head – will return for the reboot.
Who is the new Slayer in the Buffy reboot?
Ryan Kiera Armstrong has been cast as the new Slayer.
Sarah Michelle announced the news on Instagram, writing:
“From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”
Ryan has previously starred in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and had minor roles in American Horror Story, Black Widow and It: Chapter Two.
Where can I watch the upcoming series in Australia?
Hulu is producing the currently untitled reboot, so it’ll end up on Disney+ Australia when it’s released; watch this space for an exact release date.
