And while the Golden Globes and Emmys are behind us and the Oscars are still a month away, the music industry’s night of nights – the Grammy Awards – is officially underway.

Read on to see the best (and worst) moments you may have missed at the 2024 Grammys; from Kylie Minogue’s triumphant win to host Trevor Noah’s opening monologue.

Kylie Minogue won her first Grammy in 20 years

Kylie Minogue won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Dance Recording thanks to her song Padam Padam. It’s the first Grammy the Australian singer has won in 20 years – she won Best Dance Recording for Come Into My World in 2004 – and her second Grammy overall.

Dua Lipa opened the ceremony

2024 Grammys host Trevor Noah didn’t give his opening monologue until after Dua Lipa performed a medley of her hit songs, including Houdini and Dance the Night.

Meryl Streep arrived late

During his opening monologue, Trevor Noah excitedly announced that Meryl Streep would be attending the Grammys. She then walked in (after the ceremony had started) looking absolutely fabulous in a white sequined suit.

Trevor Noah made Taylor Swift laugh

Also during his opening monologue, Trevor Noah commented on how unfair it was that NFL fans were cranky at Taylor Swift for how often the camera cuts to her during football games. “She doesn’t control the cameras,” Trevor said.

He then joked that during the Grammys, every time someone mentioned ‘Taylor Swift’, he’s going to cut the cameras to a football player. The camera then cut to Terry Crews who definitely wasn’t expecting it. The audience laughed and Taylor could be seen chuckling along with them.

Tracy Chapman performed her hit Fast Car

The 1988 song Fast Car by Tracy Chapman became rather popular again thanks to Luke Combs’ 2023 cover. During the 2024 Grammys, Luke was joined by Tracy onstage and the two performed the song together.

Miley Cyrus performed Flowers for the first time on television

Miley Cyrus took to the stage to playfully perform her hit song Flowers, which she won a Grammy for earlier in the evening. She was giving off serious Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton vibes with her hair and outfit.

Miley joked mid-song to the audience, “Don’t act like you don’t know this song.” The cameras then cut to Taylor Swift, Chrissy Teigan, Kylie Minogue and Oprah singing along. Miley also changed the lyrics to the last chorus to, “I just won my first Grammy!”

Taylor Swift announced her 11th original studio album is on the way

Everyone was expecting Taylor Swift to announce the release date of Reputation (Taylor’s Version) at the Grammys. But, of course, she did the unexpected… When she won Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, she announced a brand new album. The Tortured Poets Department will be released on April 19, 2024.

Oprah paid tribute to Tina Turner

There was a lengthy tribute to the numerous musicians who passed away over the past year during the 2024 Grammy Awards, including Oprah giving a heartfelt speech about the late Tina Turner. She shared that Tina once gave her the advice, “You must always dress up for dinner… For you.”

Jay Z invited his and Beyonce’s daughter to accept an award with him

Jay Z won the Dr Dre Global Impact Award at the 2024 Grammy Awards, and it was incredibly sweet when he invited his and Beyonce’s daughter Blue Ivy to come up on stage and accept the award with him. He also called out the Academy for awarding Beyonce the most Grammys in history but never giving her the Album Of The Year award. But then he said some nominees didn’t deserve their nominations; the audience began to boo at that comment. Jay Z replied by saying when he’s nervous, he tells the truth…

Joni Mitchell performed during the ceremony

Veteran singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, who won a Grammy this year, performed for the first time ever on the Grammys stage. The 80-year-old sang her 1966 song Both Sides, Now and was simply phenomenal, earning a standing ovation.

Billy Joel performed his new single

Billy Joel performed his recently released single Turn The Lights Back On during the Grammys. The song is the first original song he’s released in 17 years.

Celine Dion awarded Album Of The Year

Celine Dion, who has rarely been in the public eye since she was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, appeared at the Grammys to announce the winner of Album Of The Year.

Taylor Swift made Grammys history

Taylor Swift became the first person in history to win Album Of The Year four times. She won for her album Midnights and she’s previously won for Fearless, 1989 and Folklore.
