It’s unclear if Kate Hudson will wear the famed yellow dress once again, but Hollywood’s sweetheart is returning to produce the sequel of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
The 2003 rom-com follows Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) and Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey), who aren’t looking for love in another, but to fulfil their own secret agendas.
It ends with a wild chase and a kiss on New York City’s Manhattan Bridge, both promising many tomorrows together.
Even after 23 years, Andie can still be heard shouting Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain.
Naturally, there are questions about this sequel. Of course, there are no answers. Development is currently in the early stages, with its cast, screenwriter and other key creative roles yet to be selected.
Some other key cast members from the original, whose role in the sequel remains unclear, include Kathryn Hahn (Michelle), Adam Goldberg (Tony), Thomas Lennon (Thayer), Annie Parisse (Jeannie), Michael Michele (Judy), and Shalom Harlow (Judy).
Variety reported Paramount’s intent to secure both Kate and Matthew as the original love interests. Nothing has been confirmed, and nor have Kate or Matthew addressed the rumours. The pair haven’t worked together since the 2008 adventure film Fool’s Gold.
However, they did celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary in 2023 by answering fans’ questions on Instagram Live. Kate revealed the question she’s asked the most is what it was like kissing Matthew. My whole thing is we’re always in weird environments. There was only one time when we kissed that was so nice and gentle in the bathroom,” she said.
“Everything else has not been climate controlled,” Matthew added. “Everything else is like swim up to the top, the sharks almost ate you, you just fell from a plane from 300 feet, tread water before you get your breath.”
Given this was only three years ago, hopefully Matthew will leap at the opportunity to work with Kate once again.
Favourites from the Y2K era are making an incredible comeback. It should have been obvious that How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was next on the schedule. Pumping out sequels to The Devil Wears Prada, Freaky Friday, Bridget Jones, and later this year, Practical Magic.
Unlike many other trends, this one doesn’t seem to be stopping – despite many fans begging for production companies to stop tarnishing the memory of the original movies…
Perhaps with Kate as producer with award-nominee Stacey Sher, recognised for her work on Pulp Fiction and Erin Brockovich, this sequel could exceed expectations.
