Kate Hudson celebrates Oscar nomination with mum, Goldie Hawn

It's been 25 years since her last nomination.

Kate Hudson just received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role in Song Sung Blue. It’s her first Oscar nod since 2001, and she celebrated at home with her mother, Goldie Hawn and the rest of her family.

Song Sung Blue is a music-driven romantic drama inspired by the true story behind Neil Diamond’s iconic song, following a long-married couple who reinvent themselves as a Neil Diamond tribute act and unexpectedly find a second act in life.

Kate Hudson stars as Claire, a woman who has quietly put her own dreams on hold, while Hugh Jackman plays her husband Mike, whose love of performing reignites something long dormant in both of them.

The Oscar-nominee’s performance has also been recognised with a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Musical or Comedy, which was won by Rose Byrne. She also received a nomination from her peers at the Actors Awards (formerly the SAG Awards) for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. That win went to Jessie Buckley for her performance in Hamnet.

Also nominated in her category are Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Emma Stone (Bugonia), and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value).

Considering her snub at the Critics’ Choice Awards, it wasn’t expected that Kate would snag an Oscar nomination. However, her performance clearly resonated with the Academy!

Kate Hudson shared a video of her finding out about her win late at night while at home in bed. One of her children is on the bed next to her, and she appears to be on a video call with her mother, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, her mother’s long-term partner.

“Oh my God, you guys…Oh my God, I’m so happy,” she says through laughs and tears to her family. And what sounds like cheers from her mother.

She posted the video alongside a photo of Kate and Goldie embracing, and captioned it “What a beautiful morning.”

Goldie also took to Instagram to congratulate her daughter.

“Oh, my baby, my baby, my baby girl!,” she wrote. “I love you as big as the universe. Congratulations, sweetheart. Once upon time, I had a little girl named Kate! And look at her now! Yay!”

In 2001, Kate was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Penny Lane in Almost Famous. She also won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for the same role. The Oscar for Best Supporting Actress went to Jennifer Connelly for her performance in A Beautiful Mind.

Whoever ends up winning the Best Actress Oscar will have a great story to tell.

If it’s Kate, it’s her first nod since 2001 and her first Best Actress nomination. It is also Renate Reinsve’s second nomination and could be her first win. If it’s Rose Byrne, it’s also her first Academy Award nomination.

However, if Irish actor Jessie Buckley wins on the night, she will be the first Irish‑born actress to win Best Actress at the Oscars. Plus, it’s also her first nomination in the category.

Emma Stone’s nomination pushes her career Oscar nominations to seven. This makes her the youngest woman to reach seven nominations by age 37. Breaking a record set by Meryl Streep. If she wins, she will be one of only three women to hold three Best Actress Oscars.
