Attention movie lovers, you need to put Lonely Planet on your watch list.
The upcoming film stars Oscar winner Laura Dern and Australia’s very own Liam Hemsworth, and was written and directed by Susannah Grant – the mastermind behind Erin Brockovich.
“With Lonely Planet, I wanted to make a film about the transformational power of travel — how sometimes journeying thousands of miles away from everything you know about your life can make you see it, and yourself, in a revealing new light,” Susannah told Netflix’s Tudum.
Here’s everything you need to know…
Where can I watch Lonely Planet?
Lonely Planet will be released on Netflix on October 11.

What is the Lonely Planet movie about?
Lonely Planet follows Katherine, a reclusive novelist suffering from severe writer’s block.
In an attempt to get rid of her ‘block’, she travels to a secluded writer’s retreat in Morocco, hoping the isolation will help.
However, during her stay, Katherine crosses paths with a younger man, Owen… And what begins as a chance encounter between the two soon transforms into a powerful, life-changing romance.
Who stars in Lonely Planet?
As aforementioned, Laura Dern stars in the new movie as Katherine.
The Oscar-winning actress is best known for her roles in Jurassic Park, Marriage Story, Wild, Big Little Lies and Palm Royale.

Laura recently spoke to Tudum about Lonely Planet and shared, “What drew me to the story was the exploration of identity and self-worth within relationships, especially in a world as intellectually charged as the literary scene.
“The dynamic between the younger man and the older, established writer intrigued me because it’s not just about romance — it’s about finding someone who truly sees and understands you, which is something deeply human and relatable.”
Opposite Laura in the Lonely Planet movie is Australian actor Liam Hemsworth; he’s set to play Owen.
Liam is known for his roles in The Hunger Games, The Dressmaker and The Last Song.
Diana Silvers, best known for her role in Booksmart, will also appear in Lonely Planet in a supporting role.
