Tennis legend Pat Cash announces engagement to “soulmate”

"Every now and then, life can surprise you in the very best way."

We’ve had a lot of tennis love in the last twelve months. Aussie top player Alex de Minaur married his long-term partner and fellow tennis player, Katie Boulter. Earlier in the year, both Maddison Inglis and Jason Kubler qualified for the Australian Open, just a month after their engagement. And now we have another Aussie tennis love story: Pat Cash is officially engaged to his “soulmate” Charlotte Hodson.

“Every now and then, life can surprise you in the very best way,” Pat wrote on Instagram. “I’m so incredibly lucky to know that through an amazing string of coincidences I found my soulmate. I can’t help but believe God had it all planned to perfection. She said yes.”

This won’t be the first time the Aussie tennis legend has walked down the aisle. Pat married Emily Bendit in 1990, and together they have twin boys, Jett and Shannon. He also has a son, Daniel, and daughter, Mia, with his former girlfriend, Norwegian model Anne-Britt Kristiansen. In addition to being a father, Pat became a grandfather at 45 years old when Mia gave birth to her own daughter, Talia, in 2020 in Norway. She had a second child, Patrick, named after her father and grandfather

“Yes, very proud of that,” Pat said at the time to the Sydney Morning Herald. “My daughter’s had a very healthy baby girl. [Becoming a grandfather] was a bit quicker than I expected, I’ve got to be honest. Then again, my kids came a bit sooner than I expected too. So, yeah, I was a young dad, and now I’m a young grandad!”

Four years after the birth of his granddaughter, Pat shared in an interview with The Guardian in 2014 that his children saved his life.

“If it wasn’t for my kids, I might have killed myself. I suffered from severe depression from the age of 19 until 35,” he candidly shared with the publication. “It’s no secret I experimented with drugs when I was younger, but the real issue was why I felt the need to. It was down to the stress I was under playing for my country, the expectations I put on myself and the expectations people put on me. I ended up checking into rehab for depression. Things got better when I retired from playing professionally.”

Today, the Wimbledon champion works as a tennis commentator, coach, speaker and entrepreneur, while continuing to share his love of music and support youth-focused charities. He was part of the Wimbledon broadcasting team in 2026. He also continues to coach players and runs the Pat Cash Tennis Academy, which provides coaching from beginners through to elite players. Pat himself offers coaching at selected periods.
