This is the first time Poh Ling Yeow has been nominated for the TV WEEK Gold Logie Award, and it’s admittedly been an emotional time for the MasterChef judge.
Poh lost her mother, Christina, in November 2022, so she will be walking down the Logies red carpet on August 3 with her father, Steven.
“It’s really nice to be able to share this moment with him, but it’s making us miss mum a lot,” Poh confessed to The Weekly.
“She would have loved getting ready, the clothes, she would have loved to be able to do the red carpet. She was very glam. It would have just been right up her alley.”
The 51-year-old has had a few tearful moments, but the designer for her dress this year, Nicky Villani had a brilliant idea.
“She said ‘how about we sew one of her rings into your dress?’ and I thought oh my goodness, that’s a beautiful idea,” she said.
“That way I have my mum and dad with me.”
Aside from organising the no-doubt perfect dress for the Logies, Poh has been “compartmentalising” for weeks. With so many eyes on her, it feels like a “wedding day.”
After growing up as a shy and anxious child, Poh has gradually earned confidence. From the outside, she has done so spectacularly, starring on MasterChef, Adam & Poh’s Great Australian Bites, I’m A Celebrity, and more.
However, Poh admitted her “natural state is still quite shy” and as it never truly leaves.
“It’s made me so much more. It’s made me someone who enjoys to think a lot and philosophise about life, and just keeps me grounded.”
Meanwhile, her dad has nothing but confidence in his daughter and couldn’t be more thrilled, sharing posters and QR codes to encourage people to vote for his daughter.
“He’s very into it; he’s convinced I’m going to win,” she laughed. “He has populated all his favourite eateries in Adelaide with posts of me. He’s been very brazen.”
When are the 2025 Logie Awards?
The 65th TV WEEK Logie Awards will take place on Sunday, August 3, at The Star Sydney. The live broadcast will air on Channel 7 and 7Plus at 7 pm AEST.
Voting for the Gold Logie will close on August 3, at 10:30pm AEST.
