Without further ado, here are all the movies and TV shows getting rebooted or remade in 2026:

The TV show catapulted Frankie Muniz into super stardom as a teenager. It also solidified Bryan Cranston as a comedic powerhouse long before he flexed his dramatic skills in Breaking Bad.

Its rebooted series is called Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, a callback to the show’s theme song.

Everyone is returning to the show except for Erik Per Sullivan, who played Malcolm’s younger brother Dewey. Erik retired from acting and didn’t want to return. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is taking over the role.

The show is set to premiere on 10 April 2026 in the US. It will likely be available on Disney+ in Australia.

Original series creator Bill Lawrence has been confirmed as executive producer. Furthermore, leading man Zach Braff is on board to reprise the role of J.D.. And in great news for fans, even more of the original cast are now set to return.

“Mystery Inc. is back in business! We’re excited to bring Scooby Doo to TV as a live-action series for the first time. Together with creative powerhouses Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio, we’re committed to delighting longtime fans and opening up a world of groovy adventures for a new era of meddling kids.”

The upcoming Scooby Doo series will reveal how Mystery Inc. and their beloved Great Dane first came together.

“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets,” the official logline reads.

Emily Browning, Lukas Gage, and Drake Rodger are set to star in the Prison Break reboot.

There has been no update on its release date, but Hulu (the US-production and streaming service) has ordered a series, so we’ll get at least one season!

Escape (The Piña Colada Song)

We’re unsure if this truly classifies as a ‘remake’; it’s more of an adaptation. But, nevertheless, the popular 1979 song “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes is getting made into a film.

Similar to the Australian Christmas Classic turned film: How to Make Gravy starring Hugo Weaving.

The lyrics of the song tell the story of a man who, feeling bored in his relationship, responds to a personal ad seeking someone who enjoys “piña coladas and getting caught in the rain.” He arranges to meet the mystery woman, only to discover that it’s his own partner who placed the personal ad.

Presumably, this will be the plot of the upcoming film, which will be a romantic comedy produced by Alloy Entertainment.

Production did go ahead, and Sarah Michelle shared many updates throughout 2025, including a table read of the pilot script.

“I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit “Buffy” and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right,” she said in a post on Instagram. “This has been a long process, and it’s not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there.”

On IMDB the reboot is called Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale with a very short description: “Follows Buffy Summers as she trains a new vampire slayer, to fight the forces of evil.”
