Fans of Desperate Housewives rejoice; there may be a reboot in the works.
Here’s everything we know so far…
Would Desperate Housewives ever come back?
Eva Longoria — who played Gaby Solis on Desperate Housewives for all eight seasons — appeared at Content London on December 4, 2024, on behalf of her production company Hyphenate Media Group.
While there, Eva said that Hyphenate always produces “with purpose” and never greenlights a project until the questions “What [is the project] saying? and “Why now?” have been satisfactorily answered.
This led to her discussing a Desperate Housewives reboot.
“There’s not a ‘why now’ for that show. I mean, some people do reboots because it’s like, ‘Reboot!’ It’s a good title,” Eva said.
“But I’ve talked to [Desperate Housewives creator] Marc Cherry a thousand times and it’s like, we fully mined those characters because we were on for a decade and this was 24 episodes a year … That’s a lot of story that you burn through.”
It’s not all bad news though for fans desperate [pun intended] for a reboot.
Eva went on to say that she’d happily return to Desperate Housewives if it was rebooted.
“I’d be the first one to sign up! I miss Gaby.”
Furthermore, despite what Eva said, Marc Cherry recently revealed he does have an idea for a reboot…
Is there a spinoff of Desperate Housewives?
On November 27, 2024, Marc told People that he’s had “about 70,000 people” ask him about a Desperate Housewives reboot, and so naturally, he has an idea for one.
“I would probably want to do the [reboot] maybe in an earlier decade,” Marc shared.
“Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had because we owned the whole street,” he continued.
“I know that street like the back of my hand. When someone shoots a commercial on that street, I know it instantly, because I know all those houses, I know the geography. It was such a fun place to write for. And there’s times when I go, ‘You know what? I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in, like, 1966.’”
If Marc’s idea does get off the ground, it means the original cast – Eva along with Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan – likely wouldn’t return, and it would be more of a Desperate Housewives spinoff than a reboot…
But hey, any new Desperate Housewives content, no matter what decade it’s set in, would likely satisfy fans!
