Fans of the murder mystery show Only Murders in the Building (yours truly included) were thrilled when the cast list for season 6 of the popular series was revealed.
Joining the headline trio of Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin are a host of celebrated actors from across the pond. Of course, alongside beloved cast members like Meryl Streep.
Rivals star David Tennant is joining the hit show along with Bridgerton actress Nicola Coughlan.
The Irish actress shared the news on her social media account, writing that it was “the nicest summer job I’ve ever had, including that one year I sold sweets from a shed!!”
Nicola is just off the promotional run of The Magic Faraway Tree and The Playboy of the Western World, which is coming to cinemas in Australia this June.

Also on the cast list is fellow Doctor Who Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, who was, in fact, the first woman to play the iconic role of the Doctor. Other stars, Jim Broadbent (from Harry Potter and Bridget Jones), Adrian Lukis (The Crown), Kathryn Hunter (Poor Things) and, most excitedly for this writer, Richard Ayoade. He is perhaps most recognisable for his BAFTA-winning role of Maurice Moss in The IT Crowd, starring alongside Chris O’Dowd and Rivals star, Katherine Parkinson.
However, they are just the latest batch of names joining the series. Previously announced recurring cast mates include the absolutely fabulous Jennifer Saunders, Simone Ashley (fresh off Devil Wears Prada 2), Sharon Horgan, former Spice Girls bandmate Geri Halliwell-Horner and many more.

In a shift from all previous seasons, Only Murders in the Building is covering murders outside the iconic Arconia building! The Arconia is a fictional apartment building filmed at and inspired by The Belnord in the Upper West Side of New York City.
In fact, following the SPOILER ALERT murder of rival podcaster Cinda Canning (played by Tina Fey) at the end of season 5, the trio travels to the UK to investigate her death.
In the final moments of the season 5 finale, the trio Mabel (Selena), Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) listen to the latest podcast by Cinda. It was her true crime podcast which brought them together in the first place, and while she has become a rival to them, they still love her work.
Cinda’s latest podcast is set in London. As they listen, she describes “a young woman with curls as red as blood,” who is a suspect in the murder of a royal descendant. However, Cinda says she is innocent and wants to send her to America, which could be “the only place she can be safe.” However, as they listen to her say this, a woman with dark red curly hair stumbles down the street and collapses in front of the Arconia. She puts her hands through the gates, and as she does, she perishes. When she turns over, the trio discover that it’s Cinda!

So did Cinda bring the suspect to America? Was she disguised as the suspect to aid in that mission? Did she make her way to the Arconia so that the trio would investigate, using her last bit of energy to ensure she died on the grounds of the Arconia for them to cover her case? Who is the mysterious red-haired suspect, and is it Nicola Coughlan who has auburn locks in Bridgerton? Or is the famous red head Geri Halliwell taking on the role?
Production is reportedly still underway in the UK, and no premiere date has been released. We will share as soon as we know! Stay tuned.
