It was a good night to be Sam Pang at the 66th TV WEEK Logie Awards! Sam Pang has taken home the Gold Logie, winning the coveted award for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television at the Logies.
Although no longer the host of television’s night of nights (with Robert Irwin, this year’s winner of the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter taking over), he was nominated for the top prize.
The comedian and presenter was announced as the winner during Sunday night’s ceremony at The Star in Sydney, beating fellow nominees Ally Langdon, Julia Morris, Lisa Millar, Poh Ling Yeow, Robert Irwin and Todd Woodbridge.
Despite his long career in television, Pang admitted before the ceremony that even being nominated for the Gold Logie came as a surprise.
“Anytime something happens for the first time is a shock, so I was surprised to just be nominated,” he told TV WEEK ahead of the ceremony.
“It’s a huge honour and I am a supporter of the Logies. It’s important to a lot of people. Having hosted for three years, I know how lucky I am to be part of it.”

And now, he can add Gold Logie winner to his impressive list of achievements.
This year has been another big one for the 52-year-old, who has continued appearing on Have You Been Paying Attention? (which also picked up a Logie tonight) and The Front Bar, while preparing for another season of Sam Pang Tonight and being the star of ABC’s new show, Ground Up.
“I grew up watching television at the feet of my parents – they wouldn’t let me on the couch,” he joked with the crowd on his win. “But when you’re watching television in this country, you never think you’re going to be on it.”
And now, he has the top prize! Congrats Sam!
