Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has spoken exclusively with The Australian Women’s Weekly about the significance of her coming to Australia at this time.
“Across oceans and continents, Australians watch Her Majesty Queen Mary’s work with admiration and pride.
From beginnings in Hobart to the role beside King Frederik X of Denmark, hers is a story that inspires Australians.
Queen Mary embodies so many distinctly Australian qualities, including authenticity, kindness, humility and a belief in community. That is why Australians still speak of her with so much affection.
Her life has strengthened the bond between Denmark and Australia in a way no diplomatic agreement ever could. This visit to Australia is an opportunity to build on those ties.
From Australia to Queen Mary, we simply say thank you – for representing our nation with grace, for using her voice to help others, and for showing the world what the Australian spirit can achieve.”
This visit is Mary’s fifth official visit in her capacity as a Danish Royal and her first as Queen.
The Danish Royal Palace has released the Royal Couple’s itinerary.

The King and Queen will then meet with members of the Denmark-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group, representing all Australian states and territories.
Their Majesties will officially open the Danish-Australian Life Science Event, a conference highlighting government, business, and research collaboration in innovation, prevention, and health solutions.
Tuesday, 17 March 2026: Melbourne
Queen Mary and King Frederik are heading to Melbourne on 17 March. They will be welcomed by Victorian Governor, HE Professor the Hon Margaret Gardner AC and her partner, Professor Glyn Davis AC. Following that, there will be a lunch with Danish and Australian business sector representatives.

Queen Mary is then scheduled to give a talk on her personal experiences with “sustainable transformation”, specifically around the Fredenborg Annex.
The King and Queen will then visit the Port of Melbourne to see its role in “green transition and sustainable solutions in the maritime sector.” Danish representatives will also present their own renewable energy solutions.
Then a bit of fun! Their Majesties will try their hand (or foot) at some footie at the Melbourne Cricket Ground! They could even have a go at a quick game of Aussie rules. Check out our live blog to see what they get up to in Melbourne.
Wednesday, 18 March 2026: Melbourne
Their Majesties will have a business-focused day in Melbourne on Wednesday. Starting off with the opening of a business conference, Partnering for a Green, Secure, and Sustainable Tomorrow. Attending the conference are companies from the Green Buildings and Renewable Energy sectors, along with their Australian partners.
Then the royal couple will go to Melbourne’s Children Campus to see the collaboration between Denmark and Autralia non steam cell research.
Afterwards, the King and Queen will go to Headspace in South Melbourne to meet with its CEO, Jason Trethowan, who will go through the organisation’s work and the people they support.
Next, they are due to go to the opening of an art exhibition by Danish-Australian artist duo Rhoda Ting and Mikkel Bohesen.
Finally, the last stop on their itinerary is a reception at the Royal Botanical Garden.
Thursday, 19 March 2026: Hobart
King Frederik and Queen Mary’s final day on their royal tour of Australia is back to Mary’s home state of Tasmania!
Their Majesties will be welcomed by Barbara Baker, the Governor of Victoria, and will receive a traditional smoking ceremony by Indigenous representatives.

At that point, they would probably appreciate a meal, and what better place than the acclaimed Agrarian Kitchen? The award-winning school and restaurant that is a mainstay in the region and a favourite of locals and tourists alike!
Following that, King Frederik and Queen Mary will tour MONA with its founder, David Walsh and attend a pop-up concert by Danish electro-pop duo ROYA.
Their final official engagement is a State Reception hosted by Tasmanian Governor, Barbara Baker AC. Another opportunity for a potential tiara moment?
