The Danish Royal Family confirmed the news that Queen Mary and King Frederik will be heading Down Under. The official dates are from 14 March to 19 March 2026.

The aim of the visit is to “further develop the already strong relations between Australia and Denmark, both culturally, economically, and in terms of foreign policy.”

The statement also shared that the visit will have a focus on nature and cultural conservation.

It’s not that surprising that Queen Mary is visiting Australia in 2026. There have been many hints made by numerous dignitaries, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Plus, the Danish Royals haven’t been down in Australia for quite some time.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese let news of an upcoming trip slip while speaking to Kyle Sandilands on the KISS FM radio in January.

“Queen Mary is coming here,” he said, per The Sydney Morning Herald.

“She’ll be here – I’m not sure that we’ve publicly released the dates, but it’s quite exciting. Queen Mary and King Frederik.”

Furthermore, royal watchers are presuming the Tasmanian-born Queen will be visiting to attend the Women Deliver conference.

Women Deliver is an international organisation championing girls and women’s health, rights and well-being – a movement that Queen Mary is a passionate advocate for.

“I see my role as not just being a voice of the voiceless, but also being able to be a catalyst for bringing people and relevant actors together,” Queen Mary told Vogue Australia in 2024.

“I believe that in order to find solutions to some of the most pressing global challenges of today we need to take a holistic approach that requires us to consider the social, environmental and economic aspects and work together in new and innovative partnerships, maybe with people and organisations we wouldn’t have thought about working with before.

“It will require continuous effort and patience, and strong and authentic leadership: it takes time to create real and sustainable change. I try, as effectively as possibly, to use the platform that I have built up over the years to advocate and work for the empowerment of women and of their human rights.”

The conference occurs every three years, with the 2026 event taking place in Melbourne on April 27-30.

However, the state visit is officially from 14 March to 19 March 2026. Perhaps she will stay on longer for the conference. The royal couple’s official schedule has not been released.

Queen Mary has previously attended its conferences in Canada in 2019, Denmark in 2016, where she acted as the official patron of Women Deliver, and Malaysia in 2013.

When did Queen May of Denmark last visit Australia?

The last time Queen Mary graced our shores was in November 2024, when she was spotted touring Bronte Beach in Sydney with her youngest daughter, Princess Josephine.

She has made numerous unofficial visits, including a December 2023 visit with her children, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, for Christmas with her family.

Queen Mary’s last official visit, however, was in 2013, where she and King Frederick attended the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House.
