Once a luxury reserved for the aristocracy, lace has been around since the sixteenth century. Now, it’s making quite the comeback. In fact, it’s the one fashion trend you need to know about this summer.
From extravagant lace – think Princess Diana’s antique wedding gown to trendy lace – think Madonna’s gloves from the 1980s – lace can be surprisingly verstile. And the retro fabric is on-trend for spring-summer – just look at the latest looks from Paris Fashion Week; attendees were draped in the material – both on the runway and on the streets.
Celebrities have also been embracing the lace trend. Florence Pugh donned a white lace gown to Elle’s style awards in September, while Sarah Jessica Parker rocked purple lace for Daily Front Row’s fashion awards that same month.
“Lace is an easy way to elevate an everyday look and introduce some texture to your outfit,” says fashion stylist Cimon Vozzo, who agrees the lace summer fashion trend is here to stay. “We will be seeing more of it.”
As it’s breathable, lace is perfect for hot weather or as a trans-seasonal fabric, which is why we are seeing it donned overseas in cooler climates. How best to wear lace in the hot weather? Resort wear is in, according to Cimon.
“I would recommend pairing a lace shirt with a matching pant, shorts or skirt to give a resort wear feel to your look this summer,” says the stylist. “I love a matching set, which is a trend that is definitely sticking around. Incorporating a lace look into your collection of matching sets will have you looking the part with very little effort.”
