Big Brother Australia is returning to its humble beginnings with Channel 10, but with a new host Mel Tracina guiding the fresh-faced contestants.

During these eight years, fans watched proposals, bum dances, twins pretending to be one person, and even Corey Worthington entered the house. Big Brother has also kick-started the careers of many well-known TV personalities including Chrissie Swan, Reggie Bird, and Sara-Marie Fedele.

Big Brother is such a loved show,” Mel, 36, told The Weekly. “Around the world, and especially in Australia, the excitement for the return of it and to go back to the OG format has been so great to hear.”

But as the 2025 host of Big Brother Australia, Mel – who is known for her role on The Cheap Seats – joins an impressive gig previously held by Gretel Killen, and Sonia Kruger.

As a huge fan of the OG series, Mel is bringing her wit and expert knowledge to the role. Luckily, there are few returning features including 24/7 livestreaming, and – live nominations and evictions – Mel’s favourite part.

“I love that the Australian public decide [who stays and leaves],” Mel admitted. “The housemates not knowing why someone is being chosen to stay or leave, and then Australia getting to decide who they want to see crowned the winner – I really love that interaction.”

“Because I find it so enjoyable when you know the housemate might nominate another housemate [to leave] for XYZ. But the public go, ‘oh no, XYZ is why I love them. I know you find it annoying because you’re living with them, but I’m not’.”

So, who are these troublesome contestants heading into the Big Brother house? Channel 10 hasn’t confirmed their identities just yet, but Mel did want to share a ‘teaser’.

“There’s such a great range of Australians from all walks of life, different ages and different occupations. I’m really excited! I think Australia’s going to fall in love with these guys,” Mel excitedly confessed.

“We’ve got a single mum, a barber, an MMA fighter! There’s people that have admitted to being clean freaks, [cleaning] five times a day. I love when they admit, ‘oh everyday I must have a snack of sorts,’ like I already know that’s going to be the first thing Big Brother takes from you.”
