Big Brother Australia has returned to Channel 10, but only a few episodes into the 2025 season, fans began to wonder if the show was scripted.
Sometimes the story lines or the personalities on reality TV are so wild and chaotic, it seems fake.
Questions regarding whether Big Brother 2025 was fake or real began when Michael claimed the producers “rigged” the show.
The 49-year-old was up for eviction, alongside Jane and Holly. After this announcement, fans rushed to the live stream to watch the housemates’ reactions.

“Michael saying the nominations could be rigged and then suggesting that the voting could be rigged for evictions on the livestream,” a viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Another added: “Ooh, Michael saying it’s a bit of a scripted show. Then the camera broke away quickly. I have a feeling they get ‘talking points’ tbh.”
Below, we discuss whether Big Brother is real or fake.
Is Big Brother Australia scripted?
No, the contestants are not provided scripts. Everything they say, good or bad, is of their own free will.
However, reality TV show producers can influence the direction in which a story heads which is then edited to ramp up the drama. It’s a method done across a variety of your favourite reality TV shows.

Where to watch the Big Brother Australia 2025 live stream?
Viewers can watch the live stream of Big Brother 2025 which runs 24 hours a day for the entire season. While those behind the scenes can change the angle of the camera and switch to different rooms, Big Brother cannot fabricate storylines live.
The Big Brother live stream is available to watch on 10Play via the app or your computer browser.
Did Big Brother Australia break its own contestant rules?
It seems Channel 10 did somewhat disregard its own rules regarding who can and can’t enter the Big Brother house.
Mumbrella questioned Michael Down’s eligibility considering he is the publisher and CEO of a media company that publishes magazines. The magazines published under his company include FHM, Women’s Fitness, Krash and It Girl.
Conditions for applications state contestants couldn’t work or be associated with “any television broadcaster, news or media organisation, including any web-based media or other online platform or outlet,” according to Mumbrella.
In response, a 10 spokesperson revealed to the publication why Michael was selected.
“Michael was chosen by Big Brother as he is outspoken, opinionated, mature, brings a no-nonsense attitude to the house, is a single dad to three teens, and represents a demographic that no one else represents in the house,” they said.
