Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha say their Bridgerton love story is unlike anything we’ve seen before

“That journey is going to be so interesting and different."

Love stories may come and go on Bridgerton, but the fourth season will delve into a different side of the Ton. A side fans have never seen before.

Our favourite Bridgerton brother, Benedict, will be front and centre this season. But ever the avoidant artist, he won’t be searching for love. Instead, it will simply hit him like a truck at a masquerade ball.

In the previous three seasons, Benedict avoided love, explored his sexuality, and pursued widowed Lady Tilly Arnold. But as we’ve all seen the Bridgerton season four trailer. In it, Benedict can’t tear his gaze away from the beautiful ‘Lady in Silver.’

And so, he walks willingly into the jaws of society – otherwise known as swooning ladies hoping to nab a Bridgerton brother – in the hopes of finding the mysterious woman.

A desperate and yearning Benedict is one that fans have yet to see. But according to actor Luke Thompson, Benedict is merely “growing up.”

“What I love about the particular story around Benedict is that it’s a very human thing to have bits in your life where you feel stuck, going around a loop-the-loop,” he confessed to The Weekly.

“To put him at the centre, facing him with someone like Sophie who will challenge him and really sort of push all his weak spots – in a gentle, loving way – is really exciting.”

Sophie Baek, a humble maid played by Australian-Korean actress Yerin Ha, is unlike any romantic interest we’ve yet to see in Bridgerton. The fourth season explores the tensions in differing social classes, bringing a fresh perspective to the Regency-inspired series.

“We’re really diving into the social class structure this season. It’s almost like, how are they going to make it happen?” Yerin pondered with The Weekly. “That journey is going to be so interesting and different. That upstairs-downstairs world is going to create a whole new world,” she added, before singing Aladdin’s “A Whole New World”.

Filming a period romance is new territory for the young actress. She previously starred in dramas and action series like The Survivors, Halo, and Bad Behaviour. While speaking to The Weekly, Yerin revealed that it was difficult for her to feel deserving of the role.

“I learnt a lot from Sophie through this whole journey. Feeling like I am deserving of this role and deserving of these spaces was the hardest thing for me,” she said.

“But also, [while] Bridgerton is set in the Regency era, it’s also flexible, in terms of its rules and the world that we create, so it was actually about how am I supposed to be a leading lady – that was the biggest thing for me.”
