It is ironic that Candice Bergen, an actress who once played Vogue editor, is now watching her daughter Chloe Malle take on the impressive role in real life.
After 37 years as editor-in-chief of Vogue US, Anna Wintour will be taking a small step back, with Chloe Malle her replacement.
Naturally, fashion-enthusiasts and avid Vogue consumers are curious about Chloe and her relationship with mother, American actress Candice Bergen – who you’ve undoubtedly seen on TV and in movies.

Who is Candice Bergen’s daughter?
Candice was 39-years-old when she welcomed her only child Chloe Malle on November 8, 1985.
“Who knew love was this huge? All-enveloping. All-encompassing. My baby girl,” an excerpt from Candice’s memoir read. “It was clearly the beginning of my life.”
In her memoir, A Fine Romance, the actress was over the moon to have a child. Initially she was hesitant to return to work, but soon auditioned and earned the role of Murphy Brown in the 1988 sitcom.
The series aired for 10 years, with Candice and Chloe residing in Los Angeles.
Chloe moved east to attend Brown University, later writing for outlets including The New York Times, Marie Claire, The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest and Vogue.
In July 2015, The New York TImes reported she married Graham Albert at Le Coual, her family’s country home in France. The pair reportedly met during an Ethiopian New Year’s dinner in September 2009.
Five years later, Candice became a grandmother! Chloe and Graham welcomed their first child together Louis Albert on May 19, 2020.
Candice revealed to PEOPLE at the time that she was “over the moon excited” to be a grandmother.
“What’s lovely is seeing her become such a natural mom,” she told Today US. “She is so patient and loving with [Louis]. It’s great.”
The happily married couple then welcomed their daughter, Alice Malle Albert on April 1, 2022.
Who is Chloe Malle’s father?
Chloe Malle is the third and youngest child of French movie director and producer, Louis Malle. The late Louis passed away in his Beverley Hills home on November 23, 1995 aged 63.
Chloe would have been 10 years old at the time of his death.
Louis was best recognised for Elevator to the Gallows (1958), The Lovers (1958), Pretty Baby (1978) which starred Brooke Shields, and A Very Private Affair (1962).
When Candice first met Louis at a dinner party, she was less than impressed. But after reconnecting later, there was a spark. He immediately stole her heart after writing a romantic letter addressed to Candice.
In 1980, Candice and Louis had a small wedding in the French countryside.
Their careers soon forced them on opposite sides of the earth. After Chloe was born, Louis spent a lot of time in New York or France while the mother and daughter were in Los Angeles given Candice was working in Murphy Brown.
But they all reunited after Louis fell ill, having been diagnosed with lymphoma.

Candice, 79, is an Emmy-award winner and an Oscar-nominee. But she rose to fame for her role as title character Murphy Brown in the 80s television series.
She is also recognised for Miss Congeniality, Book Club, Sweet Home Alabama, and Bride Wars.
Candice has even played the Vogue editor in Sex and the City and the second season of And Just Like That alongside Sarah Jessica Parker.
What does Chloe Malle do at Vogue?
Chloe’s journey into the fashion empire first began when she became a social media editor role at Vogue.
She remained in this position for five years before becoming a contributing editor in 2016, then became editor of Vogue.com in October 2023. She also hosts the publication’s podcast titled, The Run-Through with Vogue.
Chloe broke the internet when her latest title as head of editorial content of Vogue was confirmed in September 2025.
Is Chloe Malle a ‘nepo baby’?
While Candice tried to give her daughter a normal childhood, it was difficult given her career. But now Chloe, 39, told The New York TImes she is a “proud ‘nepo baby’.”
“There is no question that I have 100 percent benefited from the privilege I grew up in,” she said.
“It’s delusional to say otherwise. I will say, though, that it has always made me work much harder. It has been a goal for a lot of my life to prove that I’m more than Candice Bergen’s daughter, or someone who grew up in Beverly Hills.”
