A closer look at David Koch’s family as he becomes the proud grandparent to ten kids

“We’re a very close, very loud family."

When former Sunrise presenter, David Koch met his wife Libby in his 20s, we doubt he expected to be the grandfather to ten children.

But alas, the 69-year-old revealed his son AJ welcomed their daughter in December 2025 and the number of grandchildren entered the double digits. 

With David’s family growing, The Weekly is revealing all the sweet details you should know about his personal life.

How long have David Koch and Libby been married? 

In a previous interview with New Idea, David revealed Libby was just 20 years old when they met.

“Our friend Judy decided to have a party, and that’s where we met back in 1977,” he said. 

David and Libby exchanged vows in January 1979. In 2019, they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, with David sharing a collection of their beautiful, and silly, moments together.

How many children does David Koch have? 

David shares four children with wife Libby: Samantha, Brianna, Georgina, and son Alexander ‘AJ’.

Every child of David’s has now journeyed down the aisle, with the last exchanging vows in 2022. 

How many grandchildren does David Koch have?

As of December 2025, David became the happy grandfather to ten kids! 

The tenth grandbaby was named Valentina Rose Koch, “and there is no truth to the rumour she was named after parent’s favourite hot sauce.”

“And so wonderful her Mexican grandparents, Pepe and Laura, are in Australia for the birth,” David continued. “Libby and I toasted the birth in Marrakech… which provided a great break from all the tagines we’ve eaten.”

David and Libby’s other nine grandchildren are named Catalina May, Florence May, Lila, Oscar, Matilda, Jax, Teddy, and Ella.

For The Weekly’s Christmas issue in 2017, the lovebirds were photographed with their two grand-kids Jaxon and Teddy, who were five and 16 months old at the time. David revealed the importance of tradition and Christmas in the Koch household.

“We’re a very close, very loud family,” he told The Weekly

“Dad would dress up as Santa when the kids were smaller, and then when they grew up and knew it was him he would dress in a Christmas theme. It was everything from a reindeer, to a Christmas pudding, to the archangel Gabriel. When he died, I took it over. Our Christmas is full of tradition.”

David even has a tradition of gifting matching themed pyjamas!

“In the past we’ve had cows and superheroes, and circus performers and dogs,” he said.
