We’ve all heard of Valentine’s Day; a day that celebrates love and romance.
But what about Galentine’s Day?
Observed on February 13, the day before Valentine’s Day, it’s a day dedicated to celebrating female friendships.
The concept gained popularity through the television show Parks and Recreation, particularly thanks to an episode that first aired in 2010.
In a season two episode, the character Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler), organises a Galentine’s Day brunch for her female friends to celebrate their bond and friendship.
Since the episode aired, Galentine’s Day has slowly become a cultural phenomenon, with many women around the world embracing the idea of celebrating their platonic relationships with other women.
Ultimately, it’s a day for women to show appreciation for their friends, whether through small gestures like sending cards or gifts or by spending quality time together.
And so, in honour of Galentine’s Day, we’re celebrating these female celebrities who have either embraced Galentine’s Day or enjoyed Valentine’s Day in a non-traditional way…

Kelly Clarkson took to Instagram on February 13, 2025, and wrote, “Galentine’s Day >>> Valentine’s Day.” She shared these words along with a clip of her and Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham discussing how overrated Valentine’s Day is.

Jennifer Aniston and Selena Gomez co-hosted an event for Galentine’s Day 2025.
Taking to Instagram, the Friends star shared several sweet photos and videos from the event — which was sponsored by Jennifer’s hair care brand Lolavie and Selena’s makeup brand Rare Beauty — and wrote, “An unforgettable girl’s night out. We loved hosting Galentine’s Day with Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez to celebrate female friendships.”

Madelaine Petsch, of Riverdale fame, hosted a sweet Galentine’s party for her female friends in 2025.

Amy Poehler took to TikTok in 2024 and shared a special Galentine’s Day message. The actress/comedian shared a video of herself walking around New York in the snow and said:
“Female friendships are the most important thing in your life. The best thing about your friends is they know you better than anyone and they still wanna hang out with you. Happy Galentine’s Day!”

In 2024, Drew Barrymore sent her fans well wishes for Valentine’s Day and wrote on Instagram, “I hope your Valentine looks at you the way I look at carbs!” Along with this caption, was a throwback picture of Drew lovingly staring at a bowl of pasta.

Pamela Anderson shared a stunning photo of her building a campfire on her lonesome and wrote, “Happy Valentine’s Day to those I love and have loved,” in 2024.

In 2024, Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson, Duchess of York celebrated Galentine’s / Valentine’s Day by promoting her romance novel A Most Intriguing Lady.

Last year, Diane Keaton shared a hilarious video of her reacting to clips of Ryan Gosling in La La Land and joking he was her Valentine. “My Valentine is being so silly today!!!! Happy Valentine’s Day from me and Ryan,” Diane’s caption read.
