The Weekly isn’t the only iconic Australian brand celebrating a big birthday this year (we’re turning 90 in September); popular food spread brand Vegemite is too!

And ahead of its 100th birthday, Vegemite has just released a remake of its iconic Happy Little Vegemite ad – which was first released in 1954.

While the remake heavily features the new generation of Happy Little Vegemites and brand new footage, to uphold the legacy, it also features a few clips from the original.

Plus, in an extremely special nod to the OG ad, Trish Cavanagh appears near the end of the remake.

Wondering who Trish is? Well, she appeared in the original ad when she was just 7 years old. You’d likely know her as the girl who marches atop the huge Vegemite jar.

In the new ad, a clip from the original of a young Trish eating a piece of toast covered in Vegemite quickly transitions to Trish, now 71 years old, doing the same thing.

“I’m so honoured Vegemite asked me to be involved in the ad that changed my life forever. Vegemite has been and continues to play a huge role in my life, and I am so thrilled to be passing the baton to the next generation of Happy Little Vegemite kids,” Trish said of her cameo in the remake.

“These children today don’t realise what a big event this is for them, and I hope in the years to come they look back with pride. To be in the remake of the original Vegemite ad for Vegemite’s 100th birthday is something very special. Get ready for the ride kids – I think it will be a long one!”

Vegemite will turn 100 on October 25.
