Lisa, 66, co-hosted the breakfast program for an incredible ten years, from 2007 to 2017. Countless Australians remember her iconic moments and reporting on the daily events with Karl.

“114 years ago, Lisa Wilkinson started working on the Today show,” Karl joked.

“It’s lovely to be back,” Lisa said, sitting across from Karl and his co-host Sarah Abo, adding it was also “weird” being back on-set. “I love what you’ve done with the place.”

“That whole period for me,  we obviously had our ups and downs, but we had a lot of ups and it was a very special period,” Karl said.

“We did have some really wonderful memories, and very beautiful things that I hold close to my heart.”

Lisa added, “I don’t know about you [Sarah], but I like it when I can make him laugh.”

A few months ago, Sarah, 39, tearfully confirmed on-air that she was expecting a baby boy with husband Cyrus. At the time of this announcement, Sarah was more than half-way through her pregnancy.

Funnily enough, Sarah hinted there could be a position available when she goes on maternity leave.

“There’s going to be an opening in August, so just keep it free,” Sarah laughed.

But her grand return wasn’t just to leave viewers’ jaws on the ground. The journalist was on-set to reveal an exciting project, publishing a new novel The Titanic Story of Evelyn.

“Just checking, I’m not in this one am I?” Karl laughed, to which Lisa responded, “I left you out of this one, you’ll be pleased to hear.”

The duo were of course referring to was her 2021 memoir, It Wasn’t Meant To Be Like This.

The true story follows Evelyn Marsden; a nurse, champion rower, and the only Australian survivor from the 1912 Titanic shipwreck. It is a story about survival, a young woman wanting to break the social norm, and love.
