After some health scares, Today co-host Sarah Abo has announced that she and her husband Cyrus Moran have welcomed their first child, a baby boy they’ve named Sonny.
Taking to Instagram, Sarah uploaded some sweet pictures of the new parents with their much longed for son.
“Hi there 👋🏼 you can call me Sonny 🥰,” it read.
“What a week with our little man ♥️
“He came into the world a little early but that gave us a little longer to marvel at you, our beautiful boy.
“We love you so infinitely darling ♥️
“And to the incredible doctors and midwives who made hospital home for two weeks – thank you for taking such good care of us, you are all angels and we are forever grateful.”
No other details are currently available.
Friends of the duo have rushed to offer their congratulations.
“Welcome to the 🌍 Sonny,” wrote David Campbell. “You chose well with these parents.”
“Wonderful… just wonderful!,” added Richard Wilkins. “Hearty congratulations and buckets of love.”
“We love you so much Sonny!!,” chimed in Renee Bargh. “You did it mama. Soak up the bubble- sending you all so much love x”
The happy news comes after Sarah’s early exit from Today who announced unexpectedly on July 15 that whe was starting maternity leave early due to doctor’s orders following some health scares.
“She wanted us to share that while her little man isn’t here just yet, last week she received a bit of a curveball with high blood pressure, and she’s been in and out of hospital,” co-host Sylvia Jeffreys said on the show.
Sarah also shared an update to her social media account, again repeating the high-blood pressure issue:
“Copped a bit of a curveball last week with high blood pressure and have been in and out of hospital since. Thankfully, I’m in the safe hands of magnificent doctors, nurses and midwives taking incredibly good care of bub and me, and we are both well.”
She thanked her followers and Today for their support. However, it has left the network in a bit of a pickle now that Karl Stefanovic has also exited the network. No replacement host has been confirmed for either host.
It was a difficult journey to motherhood for the Channel Nine journalist. When she first shared the news on March 11, she was holding back tears.
“Cyrus and I are expecting a little baby,” the 39-year-old confessed on Today. “I know it’s obviously very happy news. But it hasn’t been the easiest journey to get here, which I know a lot of our beautiful viewers out there have been through this and are feeling this right now, because it’s not as easy as some might think pregnancy is.
“It’s been a bit of a bumpy ride, but here we are and it’s getting harder to hide.”
Sarah revealed the couple had suffered two miscarriages in 2025. At the time of her pregnancy announcement, Sarah had reached the halfway mark.
“I think that’s also why I’ve been so cautious about sharing this news, which obviously I’m so thrilled to be sharing with you all, but I’m still terrified,” she said.
“I’m still finding it hard to believe that it’s happening and I will lean in and enjoy it, but a lot of people understand what it’s like to have this cautious optimism.”
Given their difficulties, Sarah put off telling her friends and family until they were “confident with our most recent test.”
“When you’re a 40-year-old woman and pregnant for the first time this far along, it doesn’t happen overnight,” she said. “I just want people to know that this takes effort, this takes work and just because you want it, it’s going to happen.
“But Cyrus is so, so happy and he is going to be the most beautiful father and we already love this child so much, he is coming into a world that adores him.”
In June they celebrated with a babyshower. Dressed in a beautiful floor-length white skirt and sheer long-sleeve shirt, Sarah was surrounded by friends for the joyous occasion.
