If there’s one category absolutely stealing the spotlight this year, it’s anything with wheels, suction and a mind of its own (which explains why the robot vacuum Black Friday deals are looking so good). It’s shaping up to be the biggest retail event of the year: Aussies are tipped to spend a record $6.8 billion over the Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend, according to the ARA and Roy Morgan. That’s a 4% jump on last year!

Dreame‘s Category Manager, Patrick Wang says the shift towards proper “hands-off” cleaning has been the big driver. People want vacuums that don’t just run around the house but also empty themselves, wash their own mop pads, and avoid the tangle of shoes and cables that usually trip them up.

“Time is the new luxury: People are valuing their free time more than ever, and automating the chore of floor cleaning gives back hours every week,” says Patrick.

I’ve been the proud owner of the Roborock Qrevo Edge for almost a year now, and I genuinely don’t know what I’d do without it. It picks up crumbs, navigates awkward corners better than I expected, and quietly gets on with the job. Once you get used to having a robot clean up after you, it’s hard to imagine going back.

My sister has the Dreame L10s Ultra Gen2 (currently 76% off at only $599), and I’ve recommended a bunch of different models to people over the years. Every single one of them has said they can’t believe they waited this long.

As for this year’s sales, they’re definitely worth a look. Amazon has strong markdowns across Roborock, Dreame, ECOVACS and more. Plus, you can save 50% at Roborock and up to 68% at ECOVACS. The Good Guys and Bing Lee also have huge discounts, and David Jones and Betta have joined in with solid price cuts on popular models.

Black Friday robot vacuum tips

Patrick Wang’s main piece of advice for Black Friday is simple: don’t get swept up in the biggest markdowns. As he explains: “the highest value comes from models that offer advanced capabilities like strong mopping and AI obstacle avoidance,” because those are the machines that actually save time day to day. In other words, spending a touch more now on a robot that’s genuinely hands-off can be far more worthwhile than picking up a cheaper model that still needs regular help.

He says shoppers should look for features that deliver “true autonomy.” That includes reliable navigation (LIDAR is the gold standard), good obstacle avoidance so you’re not pulling it out from under chairs, and proper mopping tech – rotating pads and auto-lifting make a noticeable difference.

A self-emptying dock is another big one, and if you want the full set-and-forget experience, a station that can wash and dry mop pads takes things even further. Suction power and battery life still matter too, especially in larger homes!

More FAQs:

Are robot vacuums cheaper on Black Friday?

Yes, robot vacuum Black Friday sales are when most brands offer their biggest discounts. You can often see up to 50-60% off popular models, including high-end options with self-emptying bins or mopping features.

Is Black Friday the best time to buy a robot vacuum?

For most shoppers, yes. Retailers compete with major deals, so it’s one of the rare times you can snag advanced models for a fraction of the usual price. Early deals are already rolling out, so it pays to shop smart!

Are mopping robot vacuums worth it?

If you want floors that feel truly clean without lifting a finger, they’re worth considering. Good mopping models have rotating pads and auto-lifting technology to avoid spreading dirt, making them far more effective than basic models that just drag a wet cloth.

Do robot vacuums work well on carpets and hard floors?

Modern robot vacuums adjust automatically to different surfaces, so they handle hard floors, tiles and low- to medium-pile carpets without losing suction. Some high-end models can even detect rugs and boost power where it’s needed.

How long do robot vacuums typically last?

With regular maintenance, most robot vacuums last three to five years. Battery life may decline before then, but many models allow easy battery replacement, and parts like brushes and filters are usually affordable to swap out.

What’s the best robot vacuum for pet hair in Australia?

Look for strong suction, tangle-free brushes and smart navigation. Models like the Roborock Qrevo Edge and Dreame L10s Ultra Gen2 are great, as they pick up hair efficiently and can handle both floors and carpets without getting stuck.
