The Australian Women’s Weekly is saddened to hear of the passing of Australian fashion icon, Maggie Tabberer.
Maggie has been a member of The Weekly family since she first appeared in our pages as a young fashion model in the 1960s. She went on to lead The Weekly’s style team as Fashion Editor for 15 years from 1981 to 1996, and appeared on our cover at least 15 times. It was an era in which Australian fashion took on the world and Maggie blazed that trail.
Sophie Tedmanson, Editor of The Australian Women’s Weekly, said:
“Maggie Tabberer was an Australian fashion icon who empowered women around the world as well as at The Australian Women’s Weekly, where she remains a much-loved family member.
“We are honoured to have photographed Maggie for her last photo shoot when she graced the cover of our September 2023 issue to celebrate The Weekly’s 90th birthday. At the time she was asked what she would advise women following in her footsteps, and she said: ‘Do something you love’. We thank Maggie for her extraordinary legacy and send love to her entire family.”
