Officially called the Academy Awards, the Oscars annually honour the best in film, celebrating outstanding performances, direction, and storytelling. 

From the nominees to where to watch the awards ceremony in Australia, here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 Oscars.

Where will the Oscars be in 2025?

This year’s ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. 

Because of the time difference, the ceremony will take place on Monday, March 3, 2025, for Australians, from 11am AEDT.

What movies will be nominated for the Oscars in 2025?

The nominations were announced on January 23, 2025 (January 24 for Australians). 

Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Brutalist lead the nominations this year, but you can read the complete list of 2025 nominations here.

How to watch the Oscars 2025 in Australia?

Australians can tune into the Oscars this year via Channel 7 or 7Plus

You can watch the red carpet show at 10.30am AEDT on March 3, and then the ceremony will be broadcast live from 11am AEDT on March 3.

There will also be a special encore screening of the Oscars ceremony on the night of March 3; watch this space for the exact time that’ll air on Channel 7. 

Who is hosting the Oscars this year? 

Critically acclaimed comedian, writer, and television host, Conan O’Brien is set to host the 2025 Oscars.

This will be Conan’s first time hosting the Oscars. However, the comedian has hosted the Emmy Awards twice before.

It’s also been confirmed that Joe Alwyn, Ana de Armas, Halle Berry, Sterling K. Brown, Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Lily-Rose Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, Whoopi Goldberg, Goldie Hawn, Scarlett Johansson, John Lithgow, Cillian Murphy, Connie Nielsen, Amy Poehler, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, June Squibb, Ben Stiller, Emma Stone, Oprah Winfrey, and Bowen Yang will present during the ceremony.

How long will the Oscars last?

Usually, the ceremony lasts about three to three and a half hours. 

Who has won the most Oscars?

Walt Disney holds the record for most Oscar wins. He won 22 Oscars during his lifetime and was awarded four additional honorary Oscars.
