The new Netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice isn’t even out yet and it’s already bewitched us body and soul.
On April 11, 2025, the streaming giant announced that Dolly Alderton, the best-selling author of Everything I Know About Love and Good Material, is set to write the screenplay and BAFTA winner Euros Lyn is set to direct.
“Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life,” Dolly told Tudum once the news went public.

Is Netflix making a Pride and Prejudice series?
Yes, as aforementioned, Netflix is set to adapt Jane Austen’s classic 1813 book Pride and Prejudice into a series.
Dolly Alderton and Euros Lyn are at the helm.
At this stage, an exact release date has not yet been announced but production will commence later this year in the UK.
Who will star in the Netflix version?
Emma Corin, the Golden Globe winner best known for playing a young Princess Diana in The Crown, has been cast as Elizabeth Bennet.
Jack Lowden, the Emmy nominee of Slow Horses fame, has been cast as Mr Darcy.
And Olivia Colman, the Oscar winner known for The Crown, Broadchurch, and The Favourite, has been cast as Mrs Bennet.
“Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Emma told Tudum.
“To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
How many versions of Pride and Prejudice are there?
Including the upcoming Netflix adaptation, there are now eight versions of Pride and Prejudice. The seven others are:
- Pride and Prejudice (1940), a film that stars Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier.
- Pride and Prejudice (1952), a TV miniseries that stars Daphne Slater and Peter Cushing.
- Pride and Prejudice (1958), a TV miniseries that stars Jane Downs and Alan Badel.
- Pride and Prejudice (1967), a TV miniseries that stars Celia Bannerman and Lewis Fiander.
- Pride and Prejudice (1980), a TV miniseries that stars Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul.
- Pride and Prejudice (1995), a TV miniseries that stars Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. This is arguably the most famous adaptation.
- Pride & Prejudice (2005), a film that stars Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.
Of course, there are numerous films and TV shows that are either heavily adapted versions of or heavily inspired by Pride and Prejudice.
The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Bridget Jones’s Diary, are just a few examples.
