In 2013, Sam Worthington was enjoying a trip in New York City with his Hollywood friends when he stumbled upon soulmate and now-wife, Lara Bingle.
And nothing screams ‘meant to be’ like two Australian’s meeting in a completely different country.
“We were both at a festival in Central Park in New York,” Lara recalled with Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O. “I was there for a Cotton On event, and he was there with a few of his friends…he was with Butler. What’s his first name? Gerard Butler.”
Since their romance went public in October 2013, the pair have made irregular public appearances. Their most recent outing was in support of Sam’s latest film, Avatar: Fire and Ash.
In 2024, they celebrated a decade of marriage – something Sam considers his “biggest achievement.”
“My biggest achievement is the 10 years with my wife,” Sam told Today at the GQ Australia Men of The Year Awards.
When did Sam and Lara Worthington get married?
On December 28, 2014, the lovebirds said ‘I do’. The intimate wedding was observed by just 10 people in Melbourne, where Sam’s family is originally from. Lara even cooked lunch on her wedding day!
“I said, ‘Mum, I’m going to get married’. And she was like, ‘What? You’ve just met this guy’,” Lara told Kyle and Jackie O. “It normally takes a long time for me to trust, but we did [get married].”
Lara and Sam’s wedding day was kept so under wraps, fans didn’t even know what she wore. Nearly ten years later, Lara confirmed she wore a simple white lace dress from Louis Vuitton featuring black piping.
At the time, Lara was seven months pregnant with their first child – something she doesn’t recommend.
“I bought it in London a couple of days before we were about to get married,” she told marie claire. “It was lucky they had something to fit me because I was seven months’ pregnant with Rocket.”
“I don’t recommend being pregnant and getting married.”
Do Sam and Lara Worthington have children together?
Shortly after their wedding on March 24, 2025, Lara gave birth to their first child together, a son named Rocket Zot.
Rocket became a brother just 18 months later!
“I’m excited about giving Rocket a sibling. Sam has a sister and I have a brother, so creating that same sense of family is special and I know they’ll have lots of fun together, especially being so close in age,” Lara told marie claire in 2016.
In October 2016, they welcomed a second son, Racer. The Aussie couple quietly welcomed their third child, River.
“I think any addition brings joy and happiness to the family, but more so when you can share it with the other boys. It’s such a boys club in my house,” she told Vogue during her third pregnancy.
Given their emphasis on privacy, the parents have naturally decided to keep their children away from the media and cameras.
“I’d never put my son out there. It’s not necessary… Both Sam and I understand it is by-product of our profession, but taking photos of my son without my consent is unacceptable,” Lara told Kyle and Jackie O.
Are Lara and Sam Worthington still together?
Lara and Sam remain together to this day, and living in the place where it all started: New York City.
