Make some waffles, blast I Need A Hero and do the roar; Shrek 5 is officially on the way!
Here’s everything you need to know about the next instalment in the iconic franchise.
Is Shrek 5 coming?
Yes, as aforementioned, the fifth Shrek film is officially on the way.
DreamWorks recently confirmed Shrek 5 will hit cinemas around Christmas time in 2026.
Who is voicing Shrek in Shrek 5?
Mike Myers will once again voice the titular character in the fifth film.

Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy will also reprise their respective roles as Princess Fiona and Donkey.
Will Puss in Boots be in Shrek 5?
At this stage, it’s not clear whether Puss in Boots – voiced by Antonio Banderas – will be in the upcoming Shrek film.
In terms of the character, it’s possible; the last Puss in Boots film ended with Puss sailing to Far Far Away (where Shrek and Fiona lived in the second and third Shrek films).
However, Antonio told Parade on February 4, 2025, that he hasn’t been contacted by DreamWorks to reprise the role.
The actor went on to say that he’s open to voicing Puss in Shrek 5 but has no hard feelings if that’s not the route DreamWorks decides to take.
“I am totally satisfied with the five Puss in Boots that I did [Shrek 2, Shrek the Third, Shrek Forever After, Puss in Boots and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish].
“I don’t know what is going to happen in the future. Maybe they [will] call me tomorrow.”

Who does Zendaya play in Shrek 5?
It’s been confirmed that Zendaya will join the Shrek universe.
The two-time Emmy winner will voice Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s now grown up daughter who was born at the end of the third film.
Why does the animation look different?
The first look at Shrek 5 was released on February 28, 2025.
And there was a bit of backlash online, as the animation looks vastly different from the first four Shrek films.
The comments section of the official Shrek’s Instagram post was flooded with criticisms like, “please fix the animation” and “please change to old style.”

There’s no official word yet on why DreamWorks has decided to change the animation style for Shrek 5; watch this space.
