What is Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost about?

As its title suggests, the documentary is an intimate exploration of the legendary comedy duo Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. It also dives into the family they built together. They are the parents of Ben Stiller, who directs this film. Jerry passed in 2020 and Anne in 2015.

Apple describes the film as a “Profound, personal look at the Stiller family”.

Through home movies, archival footage, and personal reflections, the documentary highlights Jerry and Anne’s impact on pop culture. Beginning with their rise as a beloved comedy team in the 60s and 70s (including on The Ed Sullivan Show) to their later roles in shows like Seinfeld and King of Queens.

In the film, Ben also explores his childhood spent in a creatively vibrant household and examines how his parents blurred the lines between art, family, and fame. Throughout the creative process, Ben also turns the camera back on himself and his family to uncover the influence his parents have had on him.
