There is a new leading man on Australian reality TV, and Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden is stealing hearts on The Golden Bachelor Australia 2025.
As the first Australian Golden Bachelor, there is a lot riding on Bear’s shoulders. But audience enjoyment aside, he just hoped to fine love – which he did.
More than 20 women stepped out of the glamorous limousine and greet Bear in the premiere episode. And we have been starving for a good rose ceremony ever since The Bachelor was cancelled in 2023!
Before the shows premiere, Barry teased what to expect on the Today show.
“This is for people who are looking for love again. I kind of love that – these are people with life experience, and it’s totally fascinating,” he said.
But with the first season done and dusted, we can say that we totally agree with him. The women, from all walks of life, shared their beautiful and often heartbreaking stories with the audience.
Who is The Golden Bachelor’s Barry Myrden?
Barry is a 61-year-old infrastructure engineer with the Woolworths group from the Northern Beaches in Sydney, Australia.
He moved to Manly in 1998 with his family, and is originally from Canada.
Who was Barry Myrden previously married to?
Prior to his hunt for love on reality TV, Barry was in a loving marriage with Audrey who sadly passed away in 2011. Together, they share three boys Charlie, Jack and Declan.
According to NetworkCanada, Audrey was diagnosed with a rare and malignant brain cancer in 2009.
During her battle, Audrey appered on A Current Affair, revealing her wish to secure a home for her family.
“The peace of mind that it gives me knowing that the boys, that Barry, have a place of their own,” she said on the program.
In just ten days, hundreds of tradespeople and realtors volunteered their time and materials to build their home.

As we previously mentioned, first Australian season of The Golden Bachelor is over with Barry handing out his final rose. The father-of-three confessed his love to Sunny, and gifted her a commitment ceremony.

After some encouragement from his sons, Bear put his heart on the line in The Golden Bachelor. Fortunately for him, a lot of impressive ladies signed on to compete.
The list of contestants include radio personalities, doctors, interior designers and one is even the mother to podcaster and TV host, Abbie Chatfield who also starred on The Bachelor back in 2019.
