After four years as the “Hardest Working Royal”, Princess Anne has been dethroned by none other than her brother, King Charles III.
In previous years, King Charles has been an avid runner-up. Despite taking time off due to his cancer, the monarch still managed to be number two in 2025.
In 2025, King Charles ramped up his engagements, conducting 533 across the year, including state visits to Italy, Poland, and Canada. All this while undergoing cancer treatment weekly.

It’s the most engagements he has done since 2019, when he cracked 541. In fact, according to the Court Circular, the top ten working royals of the British Royal Family completed 23 per cent more engagements in 2025 compared to 2024.
Runners-up for the Hardest Working Royal
King Charles just edged out his sister, Princess Anne, who conducted 478 engagements. However, she did have more official working days than her brother, at 186. So, the Princess Royal is still a very hard-working royal, to say the least.
Next up were Prince Edward (at 313 engagements) and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh (at 235).

This was followed by Queen Camilla with 228, up one spot from last year. Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, came in sixth with 212 engagements.
Next to Richard is none other than William, the Prince of Wales and heir to the throne, who had 202 engagements. It’s a large increase from 71 engagements in 2024. And with the palace planning for William to be king one day, he will likely be closer to the top of the list in 2026.
In eighth place was Richard’s wife, Brigitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, at 113. And following her was the Duke of Kent, who completed 77 engagements in 2025, the year in which he lost his wife, Katharine, who died aged 92.

In last place was Catherine, the Princess of Wales. In 2025, Catherine returned to public duties after she revealed her cancer was in remission. Despite her ongoing recovery, the Princess managed 68 engagements in 2025.
The 2025 rankings are fairly similar to previous years, with the top ten royals mostly staying the same, just members switching spots.
In 2024, it was (in order): Princess Anne, King Charles, the Duke of Gloucester, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Queen Camilla, the Duchess of Gloucester, Prince William, Prince Edward, and then Princess Catherine.
