Angelina Jolie is making a comeback to our screens with her latest film, Couture.
The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September, with it’s cinematic release scheduled for 2026.

What is the plot of Couture?
Couture is set to be a gritty drama. It follows an American filmmaker called Maxine (played by Angelina Jolie) who works at Paris Fashion Week. Deep in personal and financial crisis, Maxine undergoes an unexpected and life-changing journey.
Written and directed by Alice Winocour, the film follows the intersection of multiple women’s lives at the event. These women are all different ages, all from different cultural backgrounds, and all seeking to take control of their destinies. Central to the film though, is that they are all grappling with life-changing career decisions — from a veteran makeup-artist-come-fiction writer, to a pharmacy student turned model.
When does Couture release in Australia?
As of writing, it is unclear exactly when Couture will premiere in Australia. However, it is scheduled to release in France on February 18, 2026.
A relatable character for Angelina Jolie
This role may be Angelina Jolie’s most personal yet.
There are several parallels with her character’s personal and health crises in Couture. Both Angelina’s mother and grandmother died from breast cancer, influencing Angelina to get a preventative double mastectomy to avoid the same fate.
“It’s a very personal story for me,” Angelina told Time France in December.
“Too often, films about women’s struggles — especially cancer — talk about endings and sadness, rarely about life. Alice has made a film about life, and that’s precisely why the sensitive subjects it addresses are handled with such delicacy.”
Couture doesn’t shy away from these topics. One scene includes a phone conversation between Maxine and her daughter that skirts around the possibility of Angelia Jolie’s character not being around in the future. Bearing in mind that Angelina’s mother was also French, as well as the fact that she has several children of her own, it’s difficult to see where the line between the actor and her character begins and ends.

Anchored by Angelina Jolie’s French-speaking performance, Couture is set to be a compelling new feminist film. The strong current of French influence continues with Angelina’s co-star, Louis Garrel, as Maxine’s cinematographer. Not to mention Vincent Lindon and Aurore Clément as her doctor and fellow patient respectively.
While elegant on the surface, Couture is a film that investigates how women are received and represented in the world of fashion, with an underlying streak of subtle rebellion.
