Brittany Higgins, the former political staffer known for her advocacy on workplace safety and who is pregnant with her first child, has shared that she recently faced a “scare”.
Taking to Instagram, Brittany shared that a midwife told her and husband David Sharaz that her second trimester blood test “had raised red flags”.
“Our baby had a high probability of a genetic disorder – which wouldn’t have mattered to us – but scarily could mean he may be incompatible with life outside of the womb,” Brittany wrote.
In good news, Brittany added, “After an amniocentesis and a seemingly never ending wait our prayers were answered. Our little guy is perfectly fine and healthy.”
The 29-year-old went on to say, “My mind can’t help but drifting back to that waiting room in the hospital, full of pregnant women, who were all having the same test as us and whether they had been so fortunate.
“Talking about it takes the stigma out of these very real circumstances that people are faced with when trying to start families.”
Brittany first shared the wonderful news that she was pregnant on July 14, 2024; she and David shared a sweet photo of baby clothing on a clothes line to Instagram.
“Can’t wait to meet you!,” the caption read.
“Beyond excited to welcome a new member to our little family.
“Your parents are already obsessed with you and you aren’t even here yet.”
Brittany and David’s post quickly received a wide range of lovely responses from both the public and notable figures.
Olympian Libby Trickett wrote, “The most wonderful news! Congratulations.”
“What a beautiful time ahead for you and David. Congratulations,” commented The Block‘s Shaynna Blaze.
Brittany and David first started dating in 2020 and then got engaged on New Year’s Eve in 2022, at Cape Byron lighthouse in Byron Bay.
The Australian couple then moved to southern France in December last year.
But despite now living abroad, Brittany and David tied the knot here in Australia. In June of this year, they wed in a beautiful ceremony at The Valley Estate in the Currumbin Valley.
For the wedding Brittany wore a stunning couture gown by Australian designer Paolo Sebastian that featured a long sleeve lace bodice of delicate lace and a voluminous tulle skirt.
