Emma Thompson stars in book-to-screen adaptation of thriller, Down Cemetery Road

A new thriller has arrived at our shores titled Down Cemetery Road, with Award-winning actress Emma Thompson leading the series.

The highly anticipated thriller, where Emma is also an executive producer, based on a novel of the same name by author Mick Herron, published in 2003. 

Down Cemetery Road was actually Mick’s first novel ever published, and he has since released roughly 50 books. 

His series, Slough House was also adapted into an award winning series titled Slow Horses. The spy drama was recently renewed for a seventh season, with the fifth premiering in September 2025.

When does Down Cemetery Road release? 

Down Cemetery Road released to Apple TV+ on October 29, 2025, with two episodes in Australia. Following its debut, new episodes will be released weekly until December 10. 

The thriller features eight episodes. 

What is the plot for Down Cemetery Road

The series begins after a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the aftermath. Neighbour Sarah Tucker becomes determined – and obsessed – with finding the missing girl, and hires private investigator Zoë Boehm.

Working as a team, Zoë and Sarah are suddenly caught in a complex conspiracy. People who were believed to be long dead are discovered to still be alive, while the living are “fast joining the dead.” 

The book description concludes: “What begins in a peaceful neighbourhood reaches its climax on a remote, unwelcoming Scottish island as the search puts Sarah in league with a man being hunted down by murderous official forces.”

Who is the cast of Down Cemetery Road?

Emma Thompson – who has recently signed onto star in the adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility – will portray Zoë Boehm. Alongside her is Award-winning actress Ruth Wilson, best known for Luther, as Sarah Tucker. 

Additional cast members include Adeel Akhtar as Hamza, Tom Goodman-Hill as Gerard, Darren Boyd as C., Tom Riley as Mark, Adam Godley as Joe Silverman, Sinead Matthews as Denise, Ken Nwosu as Rufus, Fehinit Balogun as Amos, Aiysha Hart as Paula, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett as Downey.
