In her five years as the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern managed to capture the attention of everyone around the globe – which is certainly no easy feat for someone in leadership.
Jacinda often delivered emotional and compassionate speeches, navigating crises with empathy that made people hopeful, but never once was this kindness mistaken for weakness.

What will the documentary be about?
Prime Minister will explore her term from 2017 to 2023, which certainly had its challenges. New Zealand’s 40th PM dealt with the Christchurch mosque massacre, COVID-19 pandemic, White Island volcano eruption, and more.
While confronting these political challenges, Jacinda was also becoming a mother. On June 21, 2018, she welcomed her daughter – making her the second elected head of government to give birth while in office.
When did Jacinda Ardern resign?
On January 19, 2023, Jacinda Ardern resigned as the 40th Prime Minister of New Zealand and the leader of the Labour Party.
“I’m leaving, because with such a privileged role comes responsibility – the responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead and also when you are not. I know what this job takes. And I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice. It’s that simple,” she said at the time.
It was an unexpected announcement given she confirmed a national election in October of that year.
Her last day in office was January 25, 2023.
