Nicole Kidman may be an Oscar-winning actress but there’s nothing more important to her than family.
The 57-year-old has been happily married to Keith Urban since 2006 and is the proud mother of four children.
But Nicole also has a strong relationship with her sister Antonia Kidman.
Not to mention, the actress has on numerous occasions spoken about the close bond she shared with her mother and father – both of whom have sadly passed away now.
Here’s what you need to know about the family behind one of Australia’s most successful actresses, Nicole Kidman.
Antony ‘Tony’ Kidman – Nicole’s father
Antony ‘Tony’ Kidman was an esteemed Australian psychologist and academic, known for his significant contributions to the fields of psychology and health research.
He specialised in clinical psychology, focusing on mental health and the treatment of depression.
Tony was a long-time director of the Health Psychology Unit at the University of Technology Sydney, where he conducted research and offered support for individuals coping with mental health challenges.
Additionally, he published numerous papers and books on various topics like anxiety and emotional well-being.
His work had a profound impact on psychological practice in Australia, earning him recognition in both academia and the broader health community, as well as a Member of the Order of Australia.
Tony married Janelle Glenny in 1963, and they were the proud parents of two daughters – Nicole, born in 1967, and Antonia, born in 1970.
Sadly, Tony died from a heart attack in September 2014, aged 75.
Janelle Kidman née Glenny – Nicole’s mother
Janelle Kidman worked as a nursing instructor for most of her life.
She also edited her husband’s books and was a member of the Women’s Electoral Lobby.
Sadly, Janelle passed away in September 2024, aged 84.
The sad news was announced at the Venice Film Festival; Nicole won Best Actress at the festival for her performance in Babygirl.
Halina Reijn, the director of Babygirl, accepted the award on Nicole’s behalf and read a statement penned by Nicole onstage.
“Today, I arrived in Venice to learn shortly thereafter that my beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has just passed. I’m in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her,” Halina said on behalf of Nicole.
“She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me. I’m beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina. The collision of art and life is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”
Antonia Kidman – Nicole’s sister
Antonia Kidman is an Australian journalist, television presenter, author and lawyer.
She began her journalism career in the 1990s by working on the Today show as a researcher.
Antonia went on to present her own series in 2002, The Little Things – which was about raising children.
From there, Antonia co-authored two parenting books – Feeding Fussy Kids and The Simple Things: Creating an Organised Home, a Happy Family and A Life Worth Living – and wrote columns for multiple publications.
Then in the late 2010s, Antonia decided to shift careers and began studying law at Macquarie University.
In 2019, she graduated and today, Antonia works as a family lawyer and parenting coordinator at Mills Oakley (a Sydney law firm).
Antonia was married to Angus Hawley from 1996 to 2007 and during that time, they welcomed four children: Lucia, Hamish, James and Sybella.
The lawyer has been married to Craig Marran since 2010 and they share two children: Nicholas and Alexander.
