What is The Sticky series about?
The series is inspired by a true story, which has been dubbed ‘The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist’.
The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist occurred between 2011 and 2012.
During this time, thieves stole 3,000 tons of maple syrup from a Quebec warehouse, worth about CAD$18 million (just under $20 million in Australian dollars).
They drained barrels, replaced them with water, and then sold the syrup illegally.
The Sticky follows Ruth Landry, a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer who teams up with a hot-tempered mobster and a mild-mannered security guard to carry out a maple syrup heist.
It’s important to note that The Sticky is only inspired by The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist. Some elements of the story have been changed or dramatised.
If you’re interested in the true story as well as The Sticky’s funny but fictional take, you can watch The Maple Syrup Heist (Season 1, Episode 5) of the Netflix documentary series Dirty Money.
