Sophie Turner reprises the 2000s favourite archeologist, Lara Croft in new series

We’ve seen Angelina Jolie fight monsters and outwit villains as adventurer Lara Croft, but now British actress Sophie Turner is leading the helm in Tomb Raider

Whether you’re a fan of the video games, the movies, or Sophie herself, the first look at the Tomb Raider series sent fans into an absolute tizzy. 

The Game of Thrones star completely channelled the iconic video game character in the first image, from Lara’s signature tank singlet, shorts, gun straps and of course, the braid that every little girl copied in the 2000s.

Training for the role hasn’t been simple for the young actress. Pushing her body to its limit with training for eight hours, five days a week.

“We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot,” Sophie revealed on SiriusXM’s The Julia Cunningham Show. 

“I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realised that it’s much easier to kind of build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape.”

With news continuing to buzz about Sophie’s new role as Lara Croft, The Weekly is revealing all the Tomb Raider details below. 

When does Tomb Raider release? 

As of yet, there is no specific release date for the Tomb Raider series.

While there are some rumours that the Prime Video show will air in late 2026, production only began on January 16, 2026. Either the company is planning a quick turnaround, or these speculations are too hopeful. 

Who is the cast of the Tomb Raider series? 

Sophie Turner isn’t the only prestigious actor joining the series. And who could blame them?

Where to watch every Tomb Raider movie in Australia: 

There have been three movies starring Lara Croft. Angelina Jolie brought the video game character to the screen in 2001 with Lara Croft Tomb Raider. In 2003, she returned for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life with Gerard Butler joining the cast.

The third movie was Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara. The 2018 film followed the archaeologist as a young girl, setting out to find a mysterious island in Japan where her father disappeared. 

All three Tomb Raider’s are available to stream on Apple TV+ in Australia.

Both Angelina’s iterations are also available on Paramount+. Meanwhile the 2018 film is also available on HBO Max in Australia.

However, the upcoming Tomb Raider series will be available exclusively on Prime Video upon it’s release.
