Princess Catherine wears family heirlooms for Commonwealth Day

The British royal family have gathered for one of the biggest events of the year.

Members of the British royal family have gathered for the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.

King Charles lead the service and was joined by his wife Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Catherine, Princess Anne and her husband Sir Tim Laurence.

The Princess of Wales and the Princess Royal were caught in a hilarious moment, skipping a kiss on the cheek due to Catherine’s large hat. The Princess then navigated greeting her other family members.

Princess Catherine opted for a stunning blue outfit by Catherine Walker, paired with the late Queen Elizabeth’s pearl and diamond earrings. Finishing off her accessories was a five-strand pearl necklace by Susan Caplan.

Queen Camilla also wore royalty heirlooms for the special occasion. The 78-year-old wore the Queen Mother’s palm leaf brooch, plus the diamond and ruby earrings were reportedly own by the late Queen Elizabeth.

Among other royal attendees were the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and Prince Albert of Monaco. Plus, roughly 1800 people representing the incredible 56 nations of the Commonwealth.

This celebrate has become one of the most important events for the royal family. However, this year’s event also marks the first time the senior royals have publicly come together since the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

In a message, marking Commonwealth Day, King Charles reflected on their challenging times.

“We join together on this Commonwealth Day at a time of great challenge and great possibility,” the statement read. “Across our world, communities and nations face the increasing pressures of conflict, climate change and rapid transformation.

“Yet it is often in such testing moments that the enduring spirit of the Commonwealth is most clearly revealed.”

The 2026 Commonwealth Day marks King Charles fourth held during his reign. However, King Charles and Princess Catherine both skipped the 2024 event as they battled cancer.

Since 1997, Commonwealth Day has taken place on the second Monday of March (UK time). The occasion was originally created to celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday, but was rebranded decades later.
