Spotlight on collagen with Vida Glow founder, Anna Lahey

Everyone is talking about it.
A woman with dark hair and a white top rests her chin on her hand, wearing a ring and earrings, against a gray background.

The supplement has soared in popularity in recent years – and for good reason. We chat to Vida Glow founder Anna Lahey, who says their latest formula, Pro Collagen+, delivers a 42 per cent wrinkle reduction in just 21 days.

AWW: Vida Glow is an ingestible collagen pioneer. What makes your newest innovation superior?

Anna Lahey: We launched our first marine collagen 10 years ago, and since then we’ve constantly been seeking more effective ways to address our customers’ skin concerns. We know people don’t have time for complicated routines and multiple products, so we continued to study, trial and uncover the latest advancements. This led us to discover a marine collagen tripeptide, which can help to smooth lines and wrinkles in just three weeks. We’ve formulated our tripeptide collagen into Pro Collagen+, which includes an ingestible form of hyaluronic acid and digestive enzymes to address the concerns of mature skin – loss of elasticity, lines and wrinkles, dryness and dullness.

How does collagen work when it comes to treating signs of ageing?

Collagen gives our skin elasticity, and helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles. We know that our natural levels begin to deplete in our mid-20s and rapidly around perimenopause. Supplementing is an effective way to stimulate production and restore the skin’s appearance. However, collagen is a very large molecule that needs to be broken down to be effectively absorbed. In Pro Collagen+, we’ve created the lowest molecular weight for rapid absorption.

Why does what you consume matter as much as what you put on your skin?

Taking an ingestible approach to your skin health is important simply because most of it exists below the surface. Traditional skincare targets the surface layer, which makes up only three per cent of your skin. Ingestible beauty products start in the body at a cellular level, where the ingredients can penetrate the other 97 per cent.

What should you look for when choosing a collagen supplement?

One that is clinically proven. The effects of our marine collagen have been studied in a double-blind, placebo-controlled independent trial*. You also need to consider where the collagen comes from. There is nothing sustainable about wild-caught fish and brands who use this source can’t ensure there is no by-catch in their supplier’s nets. It makes me proud that we’re one of the only brands that use farmed fish. Not only is it high-quality, but it’s the most sustainable way to source marine collagen. AWW
