It has been months since the film was released in the U.S. and it was a smash hit.

If you’re a fan of Emma’s work, you’ll understand this role in Dead of Winter is completely unlike anything she’s ever done before. 

The British actress has portrayed an evil designer in Cruella, a witch in Harry Potter and a magical nanny in Nanny McPhee. Most recently, the 66-year-old starred in the book-to-screen adaptation, Down Cemetery Road. But Emma is taking on an action-packed role this time.

When does Dead of Winter release in Australia? 

Dead of Winter will be released to cinemas around Australia on November 27, 2025. It premiered in the U.S. back in September, receiving 76 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes. 

It is currently unclear which streaming service will house the thriller, but stay tuned.

What is the plot of Dead of Winter? 

The plot follows Barb, a grieving widow traveling northern Minnesota to spread her late husband’s ashes. Her snowbound journey becomes twisted when she accidentally interrupts the kidnapping of a teenage girl. 

If the situation wasn’t dire enough, Barb is hours away from the nearest town with no phone or radio service. 

The couple who kidnapped the girl soon realise Barb knows their secret. And so, armed and dangerous, the pair are intent on murdering Barb. But as the young girls only hope of survival, Barb refuses to walk away.

Who is the cast of Dead of Winter? 

British actress Emma Thompson is leading the charge as main character Barb.

Joining her in the action thriller is Judy Greer (13 Going on 30), Marc Menchaca, Laurel Marsden, and Gaia Wise. Additional cast members include Cúán Hosty-Blaney, Dalton Leeb, Paul Hamilton, Lloyd Hutchinson, and Brain F. O’Byrne.
