Deborra-Lee Furness has officially filed for divorce from Hugh Jackman, almost two years after they publicly announced their split.
Shortly after the news of Deborra-Lee filing the complaint broke, the actress sent The Weekly the following statement:
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal. It’s a profound wound that cuts deep, however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.
“This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage. I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose.
“It is so easy to get lost in looking for love and validation outside ourselves, but that’s not where it lives — it lives within. Sometimes the universe has to create arduous circumstances for us to walk through in order to find our way home, back to our true essence and the sovereignty of self love.
“It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.
“One thing I have learned is that none of this is personal, we are all on our individual journeys and I believe that the relationships in our lives are not random. We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves.
“I remain grateful.”
Deborra-Lee and Hugh first met in 1995, on the set of the Australian miniseries Correlli.
A year later, on April 11, 1996, they tied the knot.
After 27 years of marriage, and adopting two children together – Oscar and Ava Jackman – Deborra-Lee and Hugh confirmed they were separating on September 16, 2023.
It’s been rumoured since October 2024 that Hugh is in a relationship with Sutton Foster; the two starred in the 2022 Broadway revival of The Music Man together.
Hugh and Sutton seemingly confirmed their romance in January of this year when they held hands while out and about in New York.
