A popular pain relief cream sold across Australia has been urgently recalled due to bacterial contamination.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) issued a recall for two batches of Deep Heat Extra Strength 100g Cream on Monday after they were found to contain “higher than acceptable” levels of bacteria.
The bacteria, known as Pluralibacter gergoviae, can cause serious infections, particularly in people with broken skin or weakened immune systems.
Deep Heat Extra Strength Cream is used for temporary relief from a range of common aches and pains, including arthritis, muscle strains, sports injuries, joint pain and back pain.

How to check if your Deep Heat cream is affected
The recall applies specifically to Deep Heat Extra Strength 100g Cream with the following details:
- Batch numbers: V772 and V773
- Expiry date: June 2029
“If you have purchased one of the above batches of the product, do not use it,” the TGA advised.
“Return the product to the place of purchase or contact Mentholatum Australasia for further advice.”
