Margot Robbie is one of the most high profile women in the world.
The Australian actress, who got her first big break on Neighbours, has experienced a meteoric rise in Hollywood over the past decade.
While most people would be familiar with the 35-year-old actress’s impressive list of credits, many wouldn’t know much about her life behind-the-scenes.
Read on to discover more about Margot Robbie’s life with her film producing husband and young son.
Who is Margot Robbie’s husband?
Tom Ackerley is a British film producer and a former actor and assistant director.
He began his film career starring as an extra in the first three instalments of the Harry Potter film series. He later worked as a runner and set assistant before landing assistant directors roles on a few TV and film projects including Pride, Suite Française, The Two Faces of January and Macbeth.

How did Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley meet?
Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley met while filming 2014’s Suite Française. Margot was starring alongside Michelle Williams, Matthias Schoenaerts, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Sam Riley in the film, while Tom was working as the third assistant director.
Shortly after, the former colleagues and friends moved into a share house together in London, alongside their friends Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara. The foursome then started their production company LuckyChap Entertainment, which would go on to produce some of the biggest Hollywood hits of the past decade including I, Tonya (2017), Promising Young Woman (2020), Barbie (2023), and Saltburn (2023).
Around the same time Margot and Tom began dating, and in February 2015, they were photographed together for the first time during a ice hockey match between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers.

“We kept it a secret. Because we weren’t really taking it seriously. ‘Oh, whatever, we’re just mates, we’re just mates.’ And then … everyone found out,” the Wuthering Heights star told The Guardian in 2018.
While the pair coupling up originally caused some drama in the share house — which included Sophia, Josey and two other housemates — everyone remains friends until this day.
“It was dramatic. I’m not going into the details, but shit hit the fan. Our house turned into The Jerry Springer Show for a moment there. But then the dust settled, and it was all good,” Margot explained.
“Everyone was, like: ‘No! This is going to ruin our group!’ And then it didn’t. It was fine.”
They tied the knot the following year in Byron Bay and made their first red carpet appearance together the year after that.
Inside Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley’s family life
Despite being the creative minds behind some of the biggest grossing films in recent history, Margot and Tom keep a relatively low profile.
They welcomed a son in October 2024 but are yet to reveal his name. The couple continue to work together at LuckyChap Entertainment, with their latest production Wuthering Heights, quickly becoming a box office hit and bringing in over $239 million worldwide.
“I’m a great advocate of doing business with your partner,” Margot told PORTER in 2018. “Being married is actually the most fun ever, life got way more fun somehow. I have a responsibility being someone’s wife, I want to be better.”

In the past, The Wolf of Wall Street star has opened up about how they’ve navigated balancing their relationship with their busy filming schedules.
“The most helpful thing I’ve learned from other couples in this industry is that you don’t go more than three weeks without seeing each other,” she told the Daily Telegraph in 2018. “Being in a long-distance relationship can be really hard when you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. It can mess with your head, so the three-week rule is key.”
She also credits Tom with helping ease her anxiety around taking on new roles.
“Even though Harley [Quinn] is a character I have played before, I still got scared before shooting because I’m always nervous to start any job,” she told the Mirror in 2018.
“I have this complete crisis of faith and think, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m not even good at acting, and I can’t do this.’ Every time I do a movie, I turn to my husband, and I’m like, ‘I don’t think I can do this.’ He says something like, ‘You do this every time. You’ll be fine.’”
