The final test on MAFS sends two couples into turmoil

They almost made it to final vows...

Married At First Sight Australia has seen its fair share of unanticipated couple swaps, but in a series first, the 2026 participants met with their other match.

The final task this season required the brides and grooms to divide, and have lunch as a group with their potential match. The relationship experts posed the question, “Is the grass greener on the other side?”

A few couples passed with flying colours, gently turning down the newcomer. Two grooms, Scott and David, hid in the bathroom almost immediately after the person sat down.

Others, however, acted disastrously not knowing their partner would later watch their actions.

David was in turmoil watching his wife, Alissa drop bombshells during her date with Conor. The chatty Alissa found her match, talking about star signs to tattoos – which Conor had a tattoo in a spot he couldn’t show her.

“Is it on your arse? Are you gonna drop your pants?” Alissa asked. Later, Alissa revealed she was only “70 per cent” into her relationship with David.

“I actually don’t care if my husband comes for me, he can come for me. But he ain’t coming for me!”

Watching the video, David was visibly shocked by his wife’s comments. “I feel like I’ve been fooled. I feel like I’ve been betrayed.” However, Alissa didn’t agree, feeling like she was being friendly.

“I was 100% authentic at that time,” she told producers. “I was frustrated in my relationship at that time… and I wanted to have some drinks and have a good time with the girls. It was harmless.”

Yet, Conor sent Alissa a “friend request” on social media, to which she accepted and “followed him back.” In generation z terms, this is a big relationship no no.

The conversation turned dramatically when Alissa threw her wedding ring by David’s feet after he admitted there was “no way I’m going to final vows.”

Scott’s experience watching Gia wasn’t any better. Just hours before, Gia dramatically exited the experiment, leaving behind Scott as well. So emotions were raw for the groom…

Meeting with James, Gia began asking about his relationship values noting that she wants to become a “trophy wife.” Head over heels, James confessed he would wait “six months” for Gia, who responded that she was “done [with the experiment] in a week.”

“If I was single I’d eat that up,” Gia said.

James then insisted Gia take his phone number, which she declined. However, she did tell him to find her on social media, “I’ve been posted everywhere.”

Already heartbroken by Gia’s sudden departure, Scott began to tear up.

“That is actually embarrassing,” he said. “I was about to leave this experiment thinking, ‘I’m falling in love with this person.’”

“I’m f*****g torn apart… I’m done… she just broke my heart completely.”
