Beloved actress Rebecca Gibney has been honoured with an induction into the prestigious TV Week Logies Hall of Fame, a testament to her remarkable contributions to television over the past four decades. The accolade was presented during the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards ceremony at The Star Sydney, where her son, Zac, had the privilege of introducing her, making the moment all the more special.
In an emotional acceptance speech, Gibney reflected on her journey, revealing that as a 16-year-old struggling with anxiety and body dysmorphia, she never imagined reaching such heights. “If someone had told 16-year-old me… that one day I would be standing on the stage with this award, she wouldn’t have believed it,” she shared.
Gibney expressed heartfelt thanks to the Australian public, who have supported her since the early days of her career. She also paid tribute to the writers and actors she’s worked with, including Roger Simpson for Halifax f.p. and Bevan Lee for Packed to the Rafters. Acknowledging the collaborative nature of television, she said, “No actor receives an award by themselves. There is no Lola without Chelsea, no Julie without Dave.”
She also recounted advice from the late actor Maurie Fields, who told her, “Just show up on time, know your lines, and don’t be a dick.” It’s a motto she has carried throughout her career.
Gibney expressed deep gratitude to her husband, Richard Bell, who has been her “rock and love for nearly a quarter of a century,” and to her son Zac, who she described as “the best kind of joy.” She also honoured her mother, Shirley, who taught her the importance of forgiveness, kindness, and respect.
As one of only four women ever inducted into the TV Week Logies Hall of Fame, Rebecca Gibney proudly acknowledged the achievement, expressing hope that many more will follow in her footsteps.
