Matthew directed a play for the Naked Angels Theater Company, which was founded by Pippin and Toby, and he and Sarah naturally ended up crossing paths.
And shortly after meeting, Matthew asked Sarah Jessica out via voicemail.
“He left a very charming, very self-effacing message on the machine,” the actress told the New York Times in 1996.
They dated for six years before tying the knot on May 19, 1997.
Sarah Jessica and Matthew’s intimate ceremony took place at Angel Orensanz Synagogue in New York, and she opted for a black dress instead of the traditional white.

In 2022, Matthew appeared on WWHL with Andy Cohen and was asked when he knew Sarah Jessica was ‘the one.’

In honour of their 20th wedding anniversary, Sarah Jessica shared this throwback photo from her and Matthew’s wedding. “It flew by Baby. Good golly I love you,” she wrote.
