Say goodbye to farmer-flannel and hello to glad-rags! Episode 12 of Farmer Wants A Wife is the black-tie dinner party, and it was great (if drama-filled) viewing; warning: spoilers ahead.
I have been covering this show for the better part of a decade. This popular reality show, responsible for 11 marriages and close to 30 children, is a mainstay on Aussie television. One of its alumni, Farmer David and Emily McMahon, joined us on The Australian Women’s Weekly Love Stories podcast. They spoke about their time on the show. And they brought along their 8-week-old daughter, Willa! Watch the episode here.

Episode 12
Before I delve into a spoiler-filled recap of Farmer Wants A Wife’s 12th episode, I need to get something off my chest.
I have learnt that Alex and Eddy (who left the show early in episode 10) are no longer together. I am shocked. Disappointed. Sad, even.
To quote Tyra Banks, “I was rooting for you. We were all rooting for you!”
Reportedly, the couple split shortly after filming wrapped in late 2025, and Eddy is now dating someone else. LOVE IS DEAD!
Anyway, because I found out that Alex and Eddy had broken up literally moments before watching episode 12, I felt rather cynical throughout the whole thing and kept wondering whether any of the 2026 FWAW couples would make it long-term. I honestly don’t have high hopes. Please prove me wrong, remaining farmers.
Anyway, let’s delve in. Episode 12 was the annual black-tie dinner: a night where the farmers and their remaining ladies get dressed up and enjoy a fancy dinner in the heart of Sydney.
But before this year’s dinner, the farmers took a boat ride around the harbour for some male bonding and shared how they’re going thus far.
Zac admitted he felt conflicted and had feelings for all three of his remaining gals. But the young apple farmer then vowed that by the end of the black-tie dinner, he’d eliminate one of them. Watch out, Maya, Grace and Mieke!
Jarrad said he is “50/50” between Yvonne and Brodie. He then described Yvonne as having a bit of “spice,” and if he uses that word to describe a woman AGAIN this season, I’ll scream.
Dylan confessed that he feels “strongly” for Scarlette but is still very hung up on Ally (who left his farm of her own dramatic accord in episode 11). Jarrad told him to forget Ally and focus on his two remaining women, Scarlette and Keeley. And as much as I don’t love Farmer Jarrad, I have to admit that that was good advice.
Hilariously, Jarrad did not take his own advice — as the black-tie dinner kicked off, he did not focus on his two remaining women; he only focused on one of them! The almond farmer couldn’t stop complimenting Brodie and her “gorgeous red dress” and basically ignored Yvonne.
Poor Yvonne later told producers she felt like a “third wheel”.
During the dinner, Jason, Logan and Poppy discussed the future, with Logan pointing out that because she and Poppy are so different, Jason’s future could go in very different directions depending on who he picks at the end of Farmer Wants A Wife.
Overall, it was a pretty civil and uneventful conversation. Especially when compared with what went down at other dinner tables…
At Jarrad’s table, Brodie randomly asked who he had kissed the most during the whole Farmer Wants A Wife experience. He admitted it was “probably Brodie.” And this obviously led to Yvonne leaving the restaurant in tears.
Jarrad went to console her, and it quickly became clear that Yvonne isn’t lacking in self-confidence. She basically said that she feels like men only see her physical attributes and never bother to get to know the real her and “it’s hard to look this good.”
Anyway, Jarrad said he can see past the physical and thinks Yvonne is funny, “calm” (whatever that means?) and smart. Happy with Jarrad’s consoling, the two returned to the dinner.
Over at Dylan’s table, Scarlette and Keeley told him that if Ally returned, they’d not be happy. Of course, Ally walked in right at that point; the producers clearly tried to channel the vibe of a Married At First Sight dinner party, what with the timing and the dramatic violin music.
Ally headed straight for Dylan and asked to chat with him privately outside on the balcony. As soon as the two went out there, Scarlette left the restaurant completely for some fresh air.
Out on the balcony, Ally confessed that she still has strong feelings for Dylan and still wants to be with him. She also apologised for running out on him and promised she wouldn’t do it again. Dylan was stoked. “I’ve been struggling without you,” he told her. The two then shared a passionate and very long kiss, which led to a bit of a make-out session.
Poppy was quick to spot them making out and pointed it out to everyone, including Keeley. She was obviously upset. Moments after the make-out, Scarlette returned and no one was particularly keen on telling her what had transpired.
But Keeley ended up doing the honours.
“I’m quite angry,” Scarlette said, clearly fuming as soon as she found out Dylan and Ally had kissed. And she immediately dragged Keeley outside to Dylan and let him have it (and Ally slinked back inside).
“I’m all for conversations. I’m all for talking to Ally. But I don’t think you had to make out. It’s not okay. It’s not okay at all. Making out! As soon as Ally’s back, you make out with her. It’s so disrespectful to Keeley and I,” Scarlette said before storming off to have it out with Ally.
Poppy looked like her favourite reality TV show was unfolding right in front of her; her facial expressions were killing me. Someone’s obviously a fan of MAFS.
Scarlette didn’t appreciate the attention, though and as she sat down to talk to Ally, she shouted across the restaurant, “Everyone stop watching. It’s not a theatre.”
That almost made me spit out my drink; Scarlette has been unintentionally funny throughout this entire season, so for that reason, I hope she sticks around to the end.
Scarlette voiced that she thought it was unfair of Ally to come back. However, Ally defended the decision and essentially said her relationship with Dylan was none of Scarlette’s business. But when Scarlette said it was disrespectful of Ally to kiss Dylan in front of everyone, Ally instantly apologised. Next thing, she seemed rather confused and couldn’t believe people had seen her and Dylan kiss on the balcony… Yep, that’s how glass windows and doors work, babe; they’re see-through.
Meanwhile, still on the balcony, Keeley admitted that she can tell Dylan’s connections with Ally and Scarlette are stronger than the connection she and Dylan have. After she said this, Dylan was quick to break it off with her and said she deserves a good man, but he’s not that “fella”. Keeley took it well and hugged him goodbye before hopping in a car home.
Dylan then requested a moment alone with Scarlette. And I really respected Scarlette’s ‘take no prisoners’ attitude — when Dylan apologised for disappointing her, she quickly cut him off and said:
“I’m not disappointed. I feel disrespected.”
Scarlette then admitted she was torn but was leaning towards leaving. “I can’t let you do that,” Dylan replied before profusely apologising. He then begged her to stay.
“You’re telling me to stay, but the action you just did [kissing Ally] contradicted that. How am I to trust what you say?” Scarlette asked in reply.
Ultimately, though, she decided to stay. But Dylan is not off the hook. “In some way, you need to prove that I can trust you… I’m not leaving. I’m going to stay, but you have a lot of work to do,” Scarlette said.
“I will work my arse off,” Dylan promised.
And finally, at Zac’s table, he took Mieke for a private chat. It was obvious that Grace thought Zac was going to send Mieke home during this chat.
But he actually confessed that he was developing strong feelings for Mieke and wanted to confirm she felt the same. Mieke ended up admitting that she was “falling” for Zac and the two kissed.
Grace looked shocked when Mieke returned to the restaurant with Zac. As a result, she needed some fresh air and left. Zac, of course, followed.
But surprisingly, He was the one who immediately started sobbing once the two were outside.
“Unfortunately, I’m sending you home,” he told Grace through tears. She asked what changed, and he said nothing changed; he just formed stronger connections with Maya and Mieke.
Grace looked in shock, like she couldn’t believe she had been eliminated. Seriously, as she hugged Zac goodbye and got in a car, she looked like she was in a daze; the lights were on, but no one was home.
And honestly, it was a very anticlimactic ending considering how dramatic the majority of the black-tie dinner had been. Ah well, three more episodes to go: the home visits, the final decisions and the reunion! Bring it on.
