We’ve already had shock events, intruders and more drama than anticipated. The 2026 season of Farmer Wants A Wife is a wild ride. Before you read on, there are major spoilers for episode nine of Farmer Wants A Wife below.
I have been covering this show for the better part of a decade. This popular reality show, responsible for 11 marriages and close to 30 children, is a mainstay on Aussie television. One of its alumni, Farmer David and Emily McMahon, joined us on The Australian Women’s Weekly Love Stories podcast. They spoke about their time on the show. And they brought along their 8-week-old daughter, Willa! Watch the episode here.

Episode 9
Hello and welcome back to another recap of Farmer Wants A Wife 2026. In exciting news, episode nine marks the official halfway point – meaning, we’re so close to finding out who Zac, Jason, Alex, Jarrad and Dylan choose to be their ‘wife’!
Picking up right where episode eight left off, all the farmers went on solo dates.
Zac went for a casual picnic with Maya, and the apple farmer spoke rather openly about his wants and needs for the future; essentially, Zac wants to settle down soon with the “right person”, and this person will move to his farm.
Maya opened up in return and shared that her mum is a breast cancer survivor, and therefore, she is very, very close with her… To be honest, it sounded like she doesn’t want to move too far from her family. That could be a problem depending on how far Maya’s family lives from Zac’s farm.
The conversation didn’t go in that direction, though; instead, Zac loved that Maya is a family-oriented gal, and the two kissed.
As for Jason, he took Logan yabby fishing. And Logan shared that prior to Farmer Wants A Wife, she had never really been on a date before.
“I feel a lot for Logan, the chemistry’s there… I felt a bit bad that she hadn’t experienced that much romance. Hopefully, I can try and show her some romance,” Jason told producers.
And not five minutes later, he handed her a live yabby. AKA the epitome of romance. I kid.
Especially as later in the evening, Jason presented Logan with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. It was very sweet, and Logan was stoked, admitting that she’d never been given flowers before either. Jason really is a big ol’ softie, and I truly hope he finds happiness this season.
Farmer Alex took Eddy for a romantic outdoor bath, with the mushroom farmer telling producers, “I’m so excited to spend some time with her.” No kidding, Alex, you’re in love with Eddy and have been since day dot.
The two got really deep; they spoke about past relationships as well as the ins and outs of Eddy’s work (she’s a lawyer) and whether that’s something she could continue to pursue if she were to move to the farm.
Eddy then bravely admitted she was afraid that they were just infatuated with each other rather than actually falling, but Alex immediately put her at ease: “I don’t think this is one-dimensional.”
The two practically made out for the rest of the date, and Alex later told producers, “This was by far the most romantic date I’ve ever been on before.”
Sadly, back at Alex’s farm, trouble was afoot. Rachel went looking for some paper to “write a grocery list”, but instead found Eddy’s notebook, and in it was a love letter to Alex (could a producer have encouraged her to snoop??).
Rachel immediately became upset because a few lines basically said that Eddy wanted Alex to explore connections with the other women, so that when he chooses her at the end, she will know their connection truly is the strongest.
At this point, the overdramatic Married At First Sight-esque music ramped up, and Rachel went running to Suzannah to show her the letter. “I know it’s such a breach of privacy to Eddy,” Rachel began – which made me literally laugh out loud. Hey, at least she knew reading someone’s private letter and then sharing it with someone else was the wrong thing to do.
Suzannah soon matched Rachel’s frantic and upset energy. “It makes me question everything. Every conversation I’ve ever had with him… the trust is gone,” Suzannah declared.
Sorry, this letter was in Eddy’s room, in a notebook, and not ripped out, correct? So Eddy has written this letter, but hasn’t given it to Alex yet??? I don’t really understand why the letter made Rachel and Suzannah so incensed with Alex. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.
In a nice interlude, the show went back to the solo dates right after this scandal unfolded. Jarrad took Brodie for a picnic, during which he told her he feels “super comfortable” with her and he thinks what they’ve “been building is really special”.
Has this ‘building’ been happening off-screen? Before episode eight, I don’t think I’ve ever seen these two have a conversation – and the one they had in episode eight was incredibly brief. I digress.
Jarrad opened up about being a dad and admitted he would love to have more kids. The two then joked about getting started on that next kid right then and there. Gross. (If you’re new to my recaps, Farmer Jarrad is not my favourite, and he strikes me as a bit of a player).
“Brodie’s lovely, she’s not the kind of person I’ve dated in the past… But there’s definitely something romantic there,” the almond farmer later told producers.
The two ultimately kissed their date, officially making Jarrad the first farmer this season to have kissed all of his ladies. Players are gonna play.
As for Dylan, he took Scarlett blacksmithing and made her a horseshoe necklace. The two then discussed the future, and Scarlett said she would ultimately move to the farm but not straight away – she’d want to fly back and forth and have Dylan do the same.
Dylan didn’t seem too keen on that. To me, it sounded like he wants his dream woman to follow him around as he does rodeo. Unsurprisingly, the two never really got anywhere with the discussion and ended up kissing instead.
When the solo dates came to an end, Alex and Eddy arrived home, and they asked how Rachel and Suzannah’s day was.
“Not good to be honest,” Rachel replied, and we were OFF. Rachel then swiftly pulled Eddy aside and confessed that she saw the letter in her notebook. Eddy was extremely kind, considering her privacy had been completely violated. At least she did clear up that Alex has not seen the letter:
“I hate that you read that because it was really internal, private thoughts that I never intended to give to Alex… It was never meant to read.”
Rachel wanted to talk to Alex next, and accused him of wasting her time. “You’ve had blinders on the whole time: ‘Eddy, Eddy, Eddy,’” she said.
Alex disagreed. “I’ve been trying to get to know all of you and see if something blooms.”
Rachel was not happy and snapped, “You’re not listening. You say a whole lot but say nothing at all,” before storming off.
Eddy and Alex comforted each other after the blow-up (no surprises there), and Eddy told him that what set this whole thing in motion was the letter she wrote. Alex disagreed and said it was his fault.
Later in the evening, Alex apologised to Rachel for sending “mixed messages”. And then said, “I mean it when I say I’m exploring with everyone. Yes, I’m connected with Eddy… If I felt like there wasn’t anything else worth exploring, Eddy and I would walk because it would be a waste of your time and Suzannah’s time.”
Rachel appreciated the apology but told producers she didn’t really feel like she was heard or understood. For a second, it looked like she was going to leave the farm, but both she and Suzannah decided to go to sleep before doing anything rash, planning to speak to Alex again the next morning about whether it’s worth them being there.
But Alex beat them to the punch. At breakfast, he asked Suzannah for a private chat, which ended with him saying, “I think it would be inconsiderate for me to ask you to stay longer.”
Suzannah took it like a champ and told producers as she packed her bags and left, “I’m okay but a little disappointed… That’s dating, you know. You have a spark with some people, and you don’t have a spark with others.”
And then it was time for what I hate most about recent Farmer Wants A Wife seasons: Natalie Gruzlewski’s “pre-marriage course.” Which is essentially two exercises that ‘test’ compatibility and chemistry.
I personally hate the whole thing because the compatibility questions are obvious things (like ‘When do you want to get married?’ and ‘Do you want children? If so, when?’). Basically, topics that the farmers should’ve already spoken about with each of the ladies in private. And the chemistry test is just unsettling to watch. If you’re unfamiliar, the farmer is blindfolded, and then the ladies can do whatever they like to him to “test the chemistry” (whatever the hell that means) before the farmer must say which experience he liked best without knowing who it was.
We didn’t get to see Jarrad or Zac’s compatibility tests. And we only saw a tiny glimpse of Dylan’s: Ally and he both want kids in the next five years, whereas Scarlett and Keeley want to wait longer.
On Jason’s farm, it was clear that Logan and Kimberley were clearly on the same wavelength as the dairy farmer, whereas Poppy basically failed. Especially as she reiterated that she doesn’t want children (and Jason already is a dad and wants more).
On Alex’s farm, Eddy was off to a strong start. She and Alex both had the same answers for the first several questions. But then the question, “Will you raise your children as religious?” popped up. Eddy obviously said yes, whereas both Alex and Rachel said no, and it annoyingly reignited the whole debacle again.
If you’ve missed previous episodes, Alex was very into Eddy until she said grace before dinner. He started to question whether Eddy was his perfect woman, as he’s not religious himself. But the two had a conversation and cleared it up: Eddy is a touch religious but not devout. The extent of her faith is occasionally saying grace and getting her future children christened; she’s not attending church every Sunday.
To me, I don’t think it should be a deal breaker, but Alex was on the fence for a few episodes before realising he really has deep feelings for Eddy and let the whole thing go.
And then the chemistry tests got underway. On Jason’s farm, Kimberley handed him a beer and rubbed his shoulders. Poppy took her bra off and tickled him with it. And Logan put his hands on her breasts. Subtle. Ultimately, Jason liked Poppy’s ‘chemistry test’ best.
On Jarrad’s farm, both Brodie and Carly gave him a long hug. Christina stroked his hand and arm. And Yvonne put chocolate spread on his fingers and neck, and then licked it off. It was honestly hard to watch. In the end, Jarrad liked Christina’s test best.
We didn’t get to see what Grace or Maya did to Zac, but Mieke held the apple farmer’s hand.
And on Alex’s farm, Rachel massaged his neck, shoulders, arm and butt. She then sealed the massage with a sensual but light kiss on his cheek. The cheek on his face, that is.
Next up was Eddy, who fed Alex fruit before kissing his neck. The mushroom farmer said he liked both experiences but preferred what “the first lady” did – aka Rachel.
To me, Alex looked extremely disappointed when he found out it wasn’t Eddy, and he later confirmed my suspicion, telling producers, “I actually did think Eddy gave me the massage… But, you know, that was wrong.”
The pre-marriage courses all ended with the farmers choosing someone for the next solo date.
Dylan chose Ally, Zac chose Mieke, and Jarrad chose Christina.
Yvonne was not happy about the latter decision and told producers, “I feel like the least suited to Farmer Jarrad is Christina.”
Alex chose Rachel. And she somewhat gloated that she was more compatible with Alex. It personally rubbed me the wrong way as Eddy got the first several compatibility questions right, whereas the only question we saw Rachel get right was the religion one – an obvious sore point between Eddy and Alex (and obviously added into the mix by producers to stir up trouble).
But Eddy stood up for herself and calmly said, “I don’t think differing views mean you’re incompatible.”
Sadly, Alex later told producers he’s once again questioning whether he and Eddy are compatible and maybe Rachel is a better fit. I’m honestly very irritated that we’re back here. For the last time, Channel 7: What makes Farmer Wants A Wife great is the wholesomeness of seeing two people fall for each other, not people getting caught up in drama clearly orchestrated behind the scenes.
Finally, it was Jason’s turn to choose who was going to get the next solo date. But before he could reveal who he’d picked, Kimberley (rather rudely in my opinion) asked Poppy about not wanting children, especially as Jason’s profile explicitly said he wanted more children.
She replied that it was something she and Jason needed to talk about, which nicely segued into the dairy farmer choosing her for the solo date.
Logan stormed off immediately after Jason picked Poppy and told producers, “I feel like I’m wasting my time. He’s obsessed with Poppy… She could say the complete opposite of what he wants, and he’d still want to be with her.”
What did I just say about drama?! Ah well, hopefully it settles down in episode ten…
